choosing a roof color / certainteed landmark
Comments (15)Newhomebuilder, your home is very beautiful, thanks for posting the pic. I've loved Driftwood when I've seen it in pictures on other houses. In fact it always looks gray to me rather than brown in contrast to brick. But when I tried it on our house using CertainTeed Colorview it looked a little too brown. Re: slate blend vs. colonial slate...soliciting a bit more advice...it seems that slate blend might be at least a little bit better for our house. Just wondering how much better and would it be worth the extra trouble and $$s to get the slate blend to Virginia....See MoreLandmark shingles colour advice needed
Comments (21)I didn't get an opportunity to look at homes with Colonial Slate. I admit, this was a poor choice on my part. The roofer didn't have any addresses in the vicinity and I emailed Certainteed but never heard from them. The roofer didn't have many install dates available so I had to give him a colour to proceed. Now the Colonial Slate is here I'm wondering about the amount of white/light grey in the shingles but I think you're right that it will look much different when it's on the roof and viewed from the ground at an angle. Plus it's raining today and the white on some of the shingles that are damp have taken on a duller grey colour. My concern with Colonial Slate is mainly around the pattern being an overtly dark/light ("mosaic") pattern appearing on the roof. I would prefer a more consistent darker look but I guess I'll find out once it gets installed in a couple of days...too late to go looking at homes now and arguing with the roofer to change the shingles he's already delivered! The other frustrating piece is that when you search for Colonial Slate online, you find very different pictures from homeowners claiming they have Colonial slate (some look like exactly what I'm looking for including the Certainteed website and roof visual tool they have, other homeowners are showing a dark/light mosaic look). Thanks everyone, I'll plan to post pictures once the shingles are up on the roof...here's hoping Colonial Slate doesn't disappoint!...See MoreHelp with roof color - too dark?
Comments (19)I wanted to thank everyone for their generous time for input. We decided to go with the Moire black - one shade darker than the Pewterwood. It was close, but in the end I plan on keeping the house white and I think I can get away with a dark roof - I have moments of cold feet since the Moire roof in photos has looked really dark, but I do love the bold look of the white houses with dark roofs (Studio McGee did one I just keep gazing at) so I thought why not. - Thanks, I know more next week when one section of the roof is complete....See MoreLooking for dark brown Landmark roof for new construction
Comments (2)We had a new roof put on our house in late January 2016. We chose Gerard Stone Coated Steel, in the Canyon Shake series. (Since then, the company was merged with Boral and the it is now known as Boral Steel Stone Coated Roofing; with the particular product known as Pine-Crest Shake. Color names are the same, although the color selection has been cut down to only six.) We looked at the colors online, and there were a few colors we really liked, and one in particular. Then we got a list of homes in the area that have Canyon Shake roofs, and the list indicated which color each home has. So, one weekend we spent hours driving around looking at roofs. And we were totally amazed that the roof color we thought we liked best from the online photos was the one we liked the least after seeing it in person. The color looked totally different. And we ended up choosing a color (Timberwood) that looked great in person, but we hadn't liked all that much when just viewing the photos on the website. So, what you should do is contact roofers in your area and ask for a list of homes that have the product installed so that you can look at them in person. Make your color selection from what you see in person, not online....See Moreohlaches
