I use Horizon Organic low fat milk. I buy the 8 oz carton in the vanilla bean flavor. I use it for tea and it's delicious!

I buy Organic Valley whole milk. My grandson drinks whole milk; sometimes I'm asked to babysit last minute and may not have time to get fresh whole milk for him. I really like it and can't tell the difference from fresh.

I buy whatever brand I can find. I use it for cooking and when I was still working in an office, I used it for tea. We drink so little milk that it's silly for me to buy the regular stuff, I use almond milk for wintertime hot chocolate. Now and then I use canned milk for coffee because it has a slightly carmelized taste which is pleasant.

I thought that when I retired I would just take naps if I got sleepy in the afternoons instead of drinking tea. I found that I don't get sleepy when I'm not stuck at a desk. I've had about two cups of tea in the last 6 months.

The past few months I'm drinking more hot tea and really enjoy it more than coffee. Adding just a little bit of milk to the tea makes it even better - this is mostly for breakfast type tea blends.

Yesterday I had to stop at the store to get milk and it finally dawned on me that I just don't drink milk anymore. I've been buying organic milk as I found it doesn't make my throat sore like conventional milk. I want to try almond milk too, for over cereal.

I would buy dried milk for baking if it weren't so darned expensive and my co-op does not have it in their bulk bin section. So I thought I could keep UHT and evaporated milk on hand for baking and cooking.

Hi, Teresa! Have you considered Nido? It's a dry milk made by Nestle that I found only in the Hispanic foods section of the grocery. I got the 12.6 oz. container for somewhere arount $3 I believe. It makes 2.5 quarts when reconstituted. I bought 4 containers and haven't used it yet, but I heard good reviews on it. Figured it was good for my emergency foods stash and for cooking and baking. I think it was mentioned on Gardenweb in regards to not wanting to buy dry milk in boxes containing envelopes.

I found some at the dollar store and keep in the pantry for my grandson. He actually said it was ok and did drink it and he's a pretty sophisticated diner at 13. He likes all kinds of seafood and will try just about any ethnic stuff. (he has to write a restaurant review for school so we're going out to dinner tonight to a place he picked out and researched)

I don't know the brands but check out the offerings at the dollar store, next time you're there. If I remember when I go downstairs, I'll check it out.

Have you looked at the shelf stable almond milk not in the refrigerated section of the grocery store? At my local publix, and I think at Walmart, they have the small (8 oz I think) cartons of both regular and almond milk. Usually for about a $1.00. I really like the chocolate almond milk in that size carton as I don't drink much chocolate milk. I buy the half gallon size almond milk from the refrigerated section and it keeps a really long time. Use it almost exclusively for cereal.
I have found that Horizon Organic milk in the "cardboard" type container keeps much longer than milk in the plastic cartons. The expiration date on it is much longer too. And it usually is good beyond the expiration date.

I agree Murphy, that the waxed boxes of milk keep well beyond the expiration dates. That was another plus when I went to organic milk.

I'm questioning why I bother to buy a half gallon of organic when I don't drink it at all. I don't know if it even comes in quart containers. In warmer weather I will have cereal a couple of times a week, but then, I may not be drinking hot tea in our warm weather either.

Also planning to check out almond milk to see if I like it on cereal and in my tea.
