Vaseline! It's always worked right away for me. I put it on liberally.

Having suffered with a miserable sinus infection and cold for the last few weeks, I have been chap face. I have found that applying Aquafor at night, before I go to bed has done wonders.

It's very thick, like petroleum jelly. It stays on all night, too. You might try that, and keep reapplying during the day. I originally purchased it on a pharmacist's advice for very dry nasal passages due to using a CPAP machine.

Me too. Vaseline petroleum jelly. I actually use it everywhere-hands, feet, really everywhere!

You might need something with a little medicine in it. Sometimes people get candida/yeast in the corners of their mouths and it spreads around their lips.

I had it a few winters ago and it took a long time to clear. Unfortunately I can't remember what I used. There are plenty of things on Google about it.

Carmex or Blistex in the green tube usually works for me. Petroleum jelly is the most hydrating thing you can use--just read an article on this last week.

However, if the chapping has gone beyond your lips to the surrounding skin, as deee mentions, you might have angular cheilitis, which is a big, long name for a bacterial or fungal infection of the skin around your mouth. There are prescription ointments for this, or you could just try any antifungal cream layered with a hydrocortisone cream.

Also, have you changed your toothpaste lately? I've had problems with certain toothpastes drying out my lips (I can't use whitening toothpastes, apparently).

I use Carmex lip balm, but if you have any athlete's foot cream at home, gently put it around your lips. If it's a fungus it should go away within a day or two. And if you're licking your lips, don't do that! lol

I'd also use a humidifier.

So many lip balms work, but then my lips seem to become dependent on them and I have to keep using more and more often. (I'm not talking about carmex addiction, which I think is an interesting thing - the husband of one of my friends talks about being awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of that little yellow lid going on and off the jar of carmex as she applies it almost in her sleep all night long).

But the best, easiest to apply (doesn't get too hard and tear your lips) that I've found yet is the Mary Kay lip balm. I absolutely love it. I don't sell it, I don't buy any of their other products, but was gifted some one time and haven't used anything else since. I looked online and I guess you can buy it directly - they have other lip products, but this is the only one I've used:

Keep the house humidified with a good unit and you can clear it up. Cerave is my choice, a dermatologist told me to get it and I use it on all parts of my body. They heal overnight.

As mentioned, blistex in the green tube. You also need to exfoliate your lips. I've had the same problem and searched online for help. Get the dead skin off first, then moisturize AND protect.

I know you said you tried Chap Stick but did you try the medicated kind? I used to use the black Chap Stick on a regular basis but last winter my lips ended up horribly chapped. The medicated kind took care of it really fast.

I've used a lot of other kinds but none have really impressed me. I wish I liked the natural ones I tried of the Burts Bees and Eos but my lips feel filmy and gross to me. :(

In the winter my lips get very dry and sore.

I use Clinique "All About Lips". It is pricey, but the stuff is amazing and one container will last me the whole winter.

yayagal, I just recently heard of Cerave and was going to buy some face and body moisturizer to give it a try. Glad to hear you endorse it.

I bought Carmex AND Blistex this afternoon and the Carmex is already helping!

Humidifier is a good idea, too. I was using it when I had a cough a while back and have gotten out of the habit of using it. Back on it goes!

Don't use lipstick, use blistex and drink lots of water...

DH has always spent a lot of time outside in his excavation and always uses the Mary Kay lip balm that Olychick recommended. It has always worked for him.

I hate Blistex and Chapstick and Burt's Bees and every other lipbalm I've ever tried. The only thing that works for me is Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Lip Butter (Dark Chocolate & Peppermint flavor).

It tastes great, looks amazing (people always think I'm wearing lipstick, even though it's clear), and works beautifully. If my lips are in the state you describe, all I have to do is put some on before bed, and when I wake up, my lips are perfectly moisturized.

I love it to the point that I buy 10-15 of them when I see them; out here, very few stores have it, but I can sometimes find it at Walgreen's. In the Midwest, Meijer's usually has it. So does drugstore.com. See below.

When I first found out I had hypothyroid, I had horrible dry skin and chapped lips. I had to get a prescription from the dermatologist. I used something called Locoid Lipocream which is corticosteroid. Luckily, I have not had to use it in a long time.

Now I use Chapstick and Vaseline. I also use lipstick while at work, and that helps. I had found one particular brand of lipgloss from Sephora seemed to be drying. Lancome and Benefit are much better.

After reading the linked article, I switched from Kiehl's to Aquaphor, and have never looked back. :)

I use a natural product that has no petroleum in it. It is carried in a local store, but available online from a company called Suki. Best stuff I've ever used.
