Chronic Chapped Lips
Comments (7)I ride my mountain bike approximately 20 miles everyday, and am starting to experience the same problem. However, I believe that yours is way more serious. It's as if nothing stays on long enough to be of any help. Have you tried applying a small amount of an over-the-counter strength (usually 1%) hydrocortisone cream.? 1.5 to 2% would probably be more effective, however you would need a prescription for that. The cream should decrease your inflammation enough so that lip balms can be used. Just try and stay away from constantly using petroleum-based products, as they prohibit the skin from breathing. You mention that you talked to your dermatologist. I can't believe that he didn't at least mention the use of hydrocortisone cream. What was his recommendation?...See MorePizza Party - Need new peel, recipes
Comments (65)It will be interesting to hear your recipe, trailrunner! I just made a small batch (way too small as it turned out), this was enough for two pizzas. Minced garlic from 2 heads, simmered slowly in around 1/4 cup olive oil, for 5 minutes only, being carefully to not let brown. I can't remember for sure, but I think it was almost equal parts garlic and XV olive oil. Then, added a small can of tomato paste, 1/4 cup sugar and a couple Tbsp of water, and 1/4 tsp of oregano and pepper. The crusts do look different but I'm pretty sure they are both the Baguette recipe (which I must attempt this week, having found my pans). The second crust looks more like the Bittman recipe, but that was because it was made in a square pan, more deep dish style. I wasn't thrilled with either crust this time. We had a hockey game in the middle of the day so I made the 4 batches of dough in the morning and let them proof in the fridge, then skipped the second rise for the baguette recipe. Maybe they rose too long? Next time, I'll shoot for around two hours before oven time. Then again, I tend to not eat when I am hosting, so maybe I am imagining the difference. Everyone else loved the pizzas, which is all that counts. Between the two, I like the baguette recipe a little better but DH likes the MB....See MoreDry chapped lips
Comments (31)I agree with morz8's DH. I usually have Blistex or Chapstick with me throughout the winter. I prefer the Blistex raspberry flavored version but I haven't seen it in the stores in years, partly because I haven't needed to shop for it in about a decade. At some point my wife had a short consulting gig with Wyeth at the ChapStick manufacturing plant in Richmond. In additional to paying her, they also gave her a bag containing about 50 different ChapSticks....See Morearthritis flare ups
Comments (21)Okay, are we talking about Osteoarthritis or Rheumatoid Arthritis? I have Osteoarthritis in my shoulders, mainly, and I suspect it's now in other places, too. I honestly don't know if the treatment is different between the two or not, nor do I know if the same things affect both types or not. I don't think the weather really has much of an effect on me, but I do know that the Nightshade family of plants can cause me a lot of pain. And I love most of them. I also have found that eating fresh raw pineapple is a BIG help in reducing pain! Cherries are supposed to be, too, but I find the pineapple works better for me. I've had to give up the Krill and/or fish oils, and the COQ10. They both were helpful, but both can interfere with the Plavix I now take, and also can aggravate gout, which is another form of arthritis. Sometimes I feel like I can't win for losing. I've had some type of flare up in my back for the last few days, not sure if it's the weather or what set it off. I've had to hit the prescription pain pills for several days now, and I hate doing that. So I'm back to being really strict with what I eat, I kind of ate whatever I wanted over the holidays, & most of it was not what I should have been eating! Rusty...See Moreritamay91710
