Oakley - that shorter do with the bangs looks fantastic. It's a comparably dramatic change to mine when I went shorter from the bob. Hilltop the color of your hair is beautiful.

well, I wear reading glasses on a chain (only at home). How's that for old lady. If I don't, I leave them around and spend hours hunting for them!

That's why I have 6 pair of reading glasses! I buy the 3 packs at Costco.
One in my purse, one in my car, one in the kitchen, one in the living room, and one on my nightstand. (and one pair is lost)

I have to let my bangs grow out a bit, because we are going on vacation at the end of the month, and if my bangs are too short they are too hard to control in humidity.

Sueb20, I agree that you look cute with short hair. You wear it well, as you have a face with wonderful bone structure & large expressive eyes...but I think you look soft & pretty with the bob. As far as it being dated, I assume that if you grew it out, your stylist would give you some updated features, like angling the bangs, & creating longer pieces in the front like AJ's bob has. What do YOU think/prefer?

Yes -- I have gone back to more of a layered shorter bob (and layers and sort of softly around my face) at the moment ... still blonde. And I have always had bangs (((except for a brief experiment of growing them out -- and my look even bothered my DH!!! LOL!!!))

I am 43 and my hair is just like kkay's, but it's still growing out a horrifyingly bad bang cut from almost 2 years ago so I want it to be a bit longer. Bangs are really cute but it is SO hard to find someone to cut them the way I like. Not worth the hassle if you ask me.

I have never been comfortable wearing my hair short. It's just not me. It will be interesting to see how I feel about it when I'm older. I think I'll be that scary woman oakley saw. :)

Thinking about Oakley's criteria that she wants a haircut she can ponytail ... What other creative way could Oakley get her hair out of her face if she were to consider a shorter hair style?

Well, trailrunner used to be my BFF but now stinky is. Thank you for the compliments! What you can't see in my dark/blurry pic is that my hair really is layered a bit and the back is shorter than the front. I have tried to go longer, but it just goes very flat.

I think I look better with a little more hair on my head -- hard to see in the pics but I don't have good skin, and I feel like my face is too "exposed" with short hair. However, I also hate fussing with my hair, and short hair is sooo easy! I told my stylist the longer hair took "so long" to dry -- she asked how long, I said about 5-7 minutes, and she laughed. Okay, so the short hair takes like 2 minutes! Not blow drying is never an option -- I look like a scarecrow without it. Hair dries bone straight, sticking out to the sides like straw.

Oaks could still wear a pony tail with the shorter cut shown above. I wear mine in a bob slightly shorter than that cut, and can still pull it back in a pony tail any time I need to, especially in summer. As long as itâÂÂs not layered, and thatâÂÂs not a layered cut, you can pony tail it! I think that shorter cut would look fabulous on Oaks!

I love the look of a cut with bangs pulled back in a ponytail with a few wisps on the sides hanging down. Like jterrilynn's hair in the other thread.

Sue, I own a book called "Metamorphosis" by David Kibbe, which is about hair/makeup/clothes. It was written in 1987, so the pics are dated, but the info is timeless. Anyhoo, found this online from the book. I think your "type" is a "Soft Gamine." Do you think this profile describes you? If so, according to the author, you SHOULD wear your hair short & layered. You should be going for that sassy "spitfire" effect.

I do trim and thin out my own bangs because my hair grows SO quickly! :)

To trim bangs -- first flatten them out with your hand and really play with the length.

Then take scissors and trim POINT UP with the scissors and take off mere millimeters to start as you move across your bangs. Trim off tiny tiny millimeters of length .... and them stop .... and look again ....

I do have my own set of thinning shears -- and simply lift a section of hair off the top of the bangs and lightly (VERY lightly) shear along it ....

My turn my turn, hand waving !Can I ask you all for help on my hair, I'm not so good at figuring mine out. I'm coming up to 52 and think I'm getting to old for the rock -n- roll look hair. This hair does work best though, my hair is dark thick straight wire, thick on the top but thin on the sides. I'm not much into high maintenance. Think some highlights or maybe slightly shorter? Anyone want to give me some new hair?

JT you look great! Okay I know I said I think bangs flatter most women, but after seeing you with and without bangs, I almost think you have too much bangs. Have you tried parting them - brushing the bangs to one side? You may have to let them grow out some to get it to work. Maybe the side swept, angled bangs. Beautiful eyes!

Sue, glad you find the book excerpt of interest. It's a lot to weed through 'til you get to the hair tips. Here's the hairstyle advice for your type:

Hair should always be soft and tousled, with soft layering. Asymmetrical cuts are possible if the hair is curled or waved, although this style should be finger-teased for fullness. Feather fringe around the face is always good for you. Length must be kept short. Long hair simply won't work for you because it drags you down and hides your animation, your electricity and your sensuality!
Your hairstyle should be short, sassy, and soft at the same time. Again, the shapes should be curved, rounded, or softened in outline by lots of feathering. Sleek or geometric styles are not for you (unless you want to look tired and matronly!)

Ok here is a current pic of me last week- with my hair growing out. Since leaving my job this summer I have enjoyed doing what the heck I want with my hair. No cut, no highlights no uptight professional look. For now anyway. My DD thinks I look younger with longer hair. I am 58. and yes I did ride that scooter around the shop and did not crash!

Kelly, thank you! I like the 2nd hair in a different color but I would have to do the fry mode with the curling iron and lots of goo to get that wave. Back in the day I used to get perms but it took two to work.I wish my hair would do full easier because it looks better on me.

Tina, I agree with everything you said about the bangs maybe being too heavy and something off to the side would be better. I think that is what's bothering me. I had longer side swept bangs before but the rest of the hair wasn't right, my hair is not easy to cut. Plus I think I need some highlights to soften things up a bit. Maybe something close to what I did for Oak? I like those colors but am worried about maintenance. I dye my own hair but keep close to the natural color; my temples are about 50% white but not much white elsewhere. If I start the highlight thing it means lots of trips to the salon and I'm so cheap and lazy about that lol. Look at the hair below and picture in Oaks colors. I think I like it. You? I tried to get something like it before but I think that it didn't turn out because the stylist didn't know how with my thinner side hair.

Hahaha, thanks Kelly its so funny to see me as a blond! Wow I think I look older in blond hair and now I'm not sure of the cut on me. Might look good though in a darker shade. It does have the lower maintenance thing going on though...I think this could be a keeper.

The cut looks precious on you JT, as they all do, but yes, darker hair is more flattering with your eyes & skin. I know ligher hair is supposed to brighten everyone up, but I disagree. Blonde is blah on you. As a brunette, you sparkle & sizzle.

I wonder if that cut would work for Sueb20? It's shorter & more "spitfire" than a bob, but is a different twist on her current short look. This style is a very current, decidedly feminine & sexy spin on short hair. I think she'd look marvelous with it.
