over 50 and looking for a hair iron for short hair
Comments (1)there are a multitude of flat irons available with a narrower space; I have cheap flat irons and one good quality one, the latter works much better........See MoreOlder women part 2 - EYEBROWS
Comments (30)Plucked and groomed my eyebrows for years and years. Used an old soft toothbrush to brush them -- in both directions. Brush-Brush-Brush .... REALLY works! :) Use a variety of soft brown pencils to VERY lightly color the hairs -- which are now so light-gray-white that my brows appear invisible. Keep the pencils well sharpened -- and try just VERY lightly dragging the SIDE of the color tip along your brows. As a redhead -- my natural hair lost its own color in the early 1990s and I have been coloring it since then to ashy-shades of blonde. I read YEARS and YEARS ago (LOL!) that brows should extend to the outer corner of the eye -- and curve lightly. Does anyone remember the old tip about holding a regular pencil against the side of your nose to gauge to starting point of your brows -- and then holding the pencil at an angle from the side/bottom edge of your nose and to the end of your eye to gauge the end of the brow? And after years of observing brows on older gals -- I must agree with that tip!...See MoreOlder women and makeup
Comments (27)I too use a magnifying mirror, and when i look in it I tend to wipe off the makeup I have on. It looks to me like it just kind of sits up on my pores. I am a redhead (well natural redhead, but being 61 the years have faded my hair, so the salon helps me keep it a light auburn), and I have blue eyes, very fair skin and freckles, plus lots of wrinkles My friends say I need make up, that I look pale. What foundation can I try that will not look cakey to me, like it is sitting on my face? Have I explained that, right? I try to use concealer on the undereye circles but that looks too thick too. I have used the bare minerals, and liquid foundations, now I have a maybelline cream that i put on with a foundation brush. I have spent SO much money over the years on cosmetics, and skin care. I would love to find some good products that would help my aging, dry skin....See MoreWomen’s hair comment
Comments (37)Exactly Texas Gem. Very nicely written I’m sure what follows will be of no interest to anyone but me. Threads like this always make me sad. Growing up, the “ideal woman” was Christie Brinkley. Tall, thin, pin-straight shiny blonde hair. Me? I was short, chunky, and had frizzy kinky hair that was all over the place. So for decades I tried to make my hair look “ideal.” But because I’m blessed with both frizzy and fine hair, chemicals do quite a number on it. I’ve tried relaxers, colors, straighteners. Doesn’t matter what I’ve tried, I’ve never looked like Christie Brinkley. I can remember my mother (may God rest her soul), sitting at the kitchen table clucking with her sister about the state of my hair. Gee, thanks mom. I’m a straight A student in honors classes, but yes please let’s focus on my hair. As I’ve gotten older and looked around, I’ve come to realize we all too often focus on things which literally do not matter. I am done waging a war with my hair. I do the best I can with what God and my genes gave me and that’s just going to have to suffice for everyone else on the planet. But for some reason, women particularly are often so harsh on other women about how they “look.” If you’re interested in wasting a little bit of time, poke around and see what this white woman’s standard of hair has done to our young black girls. My one big hope is that this standard does seem to be fading. I don’t have children of my own, but in talking with the children of my friends there seems to be much more emphasis on the things that really do matter. Or maybe I’m just deluding myself because the alternative is too sad to contemplate....See Morededtired
