Is chicken still good - out all night?

Took out frozen chicken breasts last night and they were out on the counter thawing all night. I only meant to leave them out for a couple of hours then move to fridge. They were room temp when I woke up. Are they still good or would you not risk it?

In your area, you might consider making the east side of the laying house out of hardware cloth or cage wire. I heard that there is an 'open wall for poultry' book now in print. This is an old practice. For us, it just happened as the one end of our hoop house was never covered. Our 12 black stars raised from hatchery chicks last summer have continued to lay almost daily over the winter even during our ice storm week. These hens have only had daylight. No hedge or trees limiting the natural light. Are your hens free ranging? One person I know complained about no eggs from his hens. It happened that his fenced chicken yard had a misc pile of lumber...and, guess where the eggs were? Once he kept the hens inside til noon, he suddenly had eggs. Another factor to consider is the food available to them. Or is there a possum in the hen house? Good luck sleuthing.

Should I have to ask the contractor to take the capacitor & start kit back or is this something he should suggest himself? I guess I have a bit of a trust issue as he has never suggested replacing the worn out compressor; just jumped in suggesting a new system. I don't even know what a new compressor should cost. We have another contractor coming out this afternoon to give us an estimate but as my husband works out of town during the week & I'll have to deal with this, I am trying to learn what I can so I can know what questions to ask & whether or not what I'm being told is legit. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Riverflow is for new builds I believe. You can use a Fastlane for a retrofit. If I were you I would invite a couple of pool builders over to give you an estimate of your 'dream environment' so that you know what you're working with. You could be talking $40k or $100k, you don't know until you check. I'm with your SO, i wouldn't really like throwing money at the pool when I'd end up with something that is by definition still lacking, but if getting what I really really wanted instead costs 80k, eh, I don't know so much about that.

I've had food poisoning once in my life. It was so awful I now throw out anything that's been sitting. Once hubby bought a big package of in-the-shell shrimp, left it in the car overnight, the next day it smelled SO BAD.

Funny this topic coming up right now..... One day last week I took some chicken legs out of the basement freezer. I was busy doing other stuff simultaneously and forgot about them. When I didn't see them on the kitchen counter an hour later, I assumed I'd forgotten to take them out of the freezer, and got out another package. The next day I found the first package on a table in the basement, quite soft and warm. I briefly considered salvaging a couple for the dog, since she eats a lot of raw meat, and doggie digestive systems are so much different than ours, but ultimately tossed the entire pack.

Honestly, I only THOUGHT about it for a millisecond or two, but sure enough, within hours, the dog developed a raging case of the runs... and I wasn't home to let her outside. Of course, the kiddoes got home long before I did, but neither knew "how to" wash the kitchen floor.... There are some things apparently, that only a MOM can do!

Chicken is routinely criticized by watchdog groups as containing a lot of bacteria.

Just be glad you found it! I spent several days looking for "What had died" before I found the package of chicken I got out of the basement freezer when I was digging for something else, and never put back.

Wow this is the first time I recall everyone in agreement to toss it! Without suggestions like "the nose knows best," etc.

Cooksnsews - too funny (well, not really) about your dog getting the runs. I almost got the runs just reading the posed question.

Toss it? Not so quick.

It depends on what time you woke up. :-)

Doesn't matter when she woke up....the chicken was room temperature....not safe to eat.
But we could say....what temperature was the room, if we want to nit pick....maybe a 40 degree room? maybe 80 degree....that's what makes the difference.

I don't stress about chicken that '' just '' got to room temp - but chicken that stayed at room temp for hours, not even I - mister unworried - will chance that.
