Bosch dishwasher cycle timing screwed up

We have a 5 year old model SHX45M (concealed controls) that has performed fine until this week. Now when I choose a cycle it defaults to the cycle timing of a half load instead of a full load, except the half load button isn't lit up.

For example, a "regular" is usually 119 minutes when I choose it. If I then choose "regular" and "half load" it is reduced to 112 minutes, and the "half load" button is lit in addition to the "regular" button. Now, when I turn it on "regular" is lit and the timing is 112 minutes. "Half load" is not lit. If I choose "half load" the timing increases to 119 minutes and the "half load" button lights. the timings are opposite of what they should be. This happens with all available cycle choices.

It still works, but I'd love to get the timing back to normal if possible. We've tried turning the power off to it but that did nothing. I won't spend a few hundred for a new control board.

We have a similar issue with our bosch. It just keeps going, and going. We've had it for ten years though. The timer we were told, would cost about $350 for our model. We plan a kitchen remodel next year so we're not going to fix this one. What we do now, is set it to the cycle we want and set a timer for when it would normally be done. We then drain the tub and run a 9 minute quick rinse. Works fine.

We would buy this model again, just as an aside.

Thanks joeboldt. We are also planning a kitchen remodel so we'll most likely replace it in the next couple years. Yesterday it looked like the timing issue was back to normal but today it's all screwy again. I can't help but think it all started with a power brown-out we had last week.

We would buy the same one again, too. I love the Bosch dishwasher design and performance.

last night, for the first time tried the "half load" option (with Auto) and decided to use a some Cascade advanced gel since have container of that left and i'm into the whole experimenting thing :) it seems that "normal" according to the manual hits a lower peak temperature than Auto can... nothing terribly dirty (not pots and pans this time, but some dried on steak fat, but it cleaned well and in shorter time than usual (maybe 1:40). i may be using this half load option more often as i think that fits our usage patterns better. i'm still very nervous about leaving dishes in the DW more than the "day of" due to a long time ago experience of ants in the dishwasher... but...what struck me was the fact that as opposed to our old GE, the house did not smell of Cascade during the DW running. i'm not opposed to that smell like many, but i liked the fact that it didn't permeate the whole house. pretty cool and suggests that the Bosch is better sealed than the GE? @kashmi: thanks for the offer. i'm not sure what tests to suggest, but i'll let you know. i do have the suspicion that one dirty item and a lot of other clean items would really be hard for the "auto sensor" to figure out, if my guess of how it works is correct (checking water clarity down the drain). in reality, i don't think i would/should be doing too many pots and pans in the dishwasher...it just isn't a good use of space. aside: i'm also recognizing the benefits of the many foldable tines in our old GE and the top level Bosch 800plus 9ER. i wish the racks in our 7ER had more foldable options, but there was no way i was going to pay an extra $700 for those options. wondering aloud: how durable are these tines anyway? i'm wondering if i should be extra cautious (i have been so far) about them getting bent by pots and pans or heavy itens resting on them (ie, when they aren't/can't be folded down)

I had the same problem, not draining at all. I ensured the drain hose was not crimped. I then removed the hose from the air gap and put it in the sink and ran the DW, it did drain into the sink so the problem was: the air gap, or the hose from the air gap to the garbage disposal. I took the hose off from the air gap to garbage disposal and checked that - no blockage. I took the air gap out, and saw it was blocked. This air gap allowed me to take it apart: a broken piece of glass had jammed in the air gap, and a small piece of plastic had jammed against the glass thus totally blocking the air gap. I cleaned it out the the DW works fine.

I wanted to post back that the problem is fixed !! It cost $100 service call from our plumber but it was worth it. He used his special de-scaling product and a pump and hooked it up outside to our demand water heater. He said that is was full of scale, had not ever been cleaned in the 8 years we have had it. We knew it wasn't working right as the heating was erratic and would have bursts of very hot water. Anyway it took 2 cycles of running the dishwasher after he cleaned and each cycle got shorter and shorter till it is back in the upper 70 min, area for the cycle which is where it used to be . So we are well pleased. Hope this helps at least some other folks who think their Bosch cycle is too long. c

It will run for a while (impossible to tell exactly because it’s supposed to have a light that shines on the floor while running but it’s never done that) and then stop. When we open the door it has clean and sanitized lights illuminated - even when sanitize was not selected - and there is standing dirty water in the bottom and the detergent door usually remains closed. When the cycle is reset and a new one started, it does drain so the pump is working. We normally run on auto but have tried regular setting. Between last night and this morning I’ve started 5 runs and it won’t complete a cycle. We have tried: -cleaning the filter and the sump area repeatedly -running a dishwasher cleaning solution (that run completed but the next did not) -placing detergent in the bottom of the dishwasher and running it with the detergent compartment either open or closed (fail) -resetting and turning off and on multiple times It’s out of warranty now other than “electronics” parts only. I’m starting to really hate this dishwasher after loving previous 2 Bosches! Any tips on a fix or should we just replace this lemon?

If your D/W is plugged in under the sink try unplugging it for about a minute and then plug it back in. Do this while the start button is engaged but the washer is not running. This will sometimes reset electronic controls.

A brown out can be hard on your electronics and it's always recommended to unplug or not use appliances during brown out periods due to the problems that can occur.

I think that for certain Bosch models--including yours--there is a "Smart Control" feature that senses soil levels and water temperature and adjusts the time for the loads. This is supposed to be an energy saving feature. See p.18 of your manual under "Wash Cycle Information."

For our own Bosch d/w (different model) I had noticed that the load times would increase or decrease from time to time based on how heavy or light our recent loads had been. Also, if I turn the water heater down while away for vacation, when I come back I might not reset it to be exactly where it had been previously. The d/w times would then vary.

So this is a long-winded way of suggesting that your d/w is probably fine.

As for my Bosch d/w, it's finally given up the ghost after ~7 or 8 years. Switching to a Miele....

After 20 years of great and faultless service, I updated my old Bosch dishwasher 2.5 years ago after remodelling. I didn't hesitate to buy Bosch again and have been mostly happy (preferred internal design of old one). Recently I've noticed that during the cycle the time seems to alter radically. I was worried it was a fault but will investigate the idea that it's an energy saver as suggested by someone. Thanks.
