Well - after 1 1/2 hours of playing around with this, I feel like a complete dummie. I have resolved myself to having nearly 3000 contacts to import to my Gmail contact list. But I can't get anywhere. I have my AOl address book imported into Yahoo. When I try to import into GMAIL (doesn't matter if I use the older or newer version), it asks where to import from - and I can't find the .csv files. I have no idea where they'd be. Whe I select browse, it takes me to my documents - and it's not there. If I try to browse someplace else, I can't find it. It also occurred to me that it may not be in .csv form yet - but when I try to export from one Yahoo account (to say, thunderbird or another yahoo account) - it suggests I can export as csv file - I click on ("Yahoo! CSV: export) - and then it brings up a screen that says: you have chosen to open yahoo_ab.csv file from http://address.yahoo.com. What should firefox do with this file? My choices are "save file" or "open with: browse". If I click "save file" - I don't think anything is happening. And I wouldn't know what to select if I used open with .... Going back to GMAIL import, I have tried entering various names that I've seen in Yahoo mail. Including "yahoo_ab.csv" - but again, nothing happens. I had a similar problem trying to import into thunderbird - I simply don't seem to be able to locate the files to do it. I'd rather go directliy from yahoo to gmail (without going through thunderbird - bc. from what I was reading, thunderbird does not maintain my address groups - and that is important to me. In fact, if I could only import my groups - that is most critical part). I'm sorry I can't be more articulate about where I'm getting hung up. I have truly never felt so in the dark dealing with computer things (even as untechy as I am, I've had a little more grasp than this). Thanks. Lynn.

I guess I should have said, Windows Live Mail; is it a different program ? Anyway, there is no "file" area that I can find. It is a very busy address type bar at the top of the program and very confusing. I think I may have done it, but in the mean time, I lost all of the mail in my in box on my server. ..........very frustrating. Windows Live mail does NOT want one to navigate away from their program and makes it very difficult to not make them the default mail program. salbwil

Mom moved to senior community last August. Set her up with AT&T phone service. I'm assuming you set it up, and then that your name, and only your name is on the account. If that is the case, they cannot legally be changing the service in any way without it being a request from you. My guess, is that if you choose for her to NOT have a long distance carrier at all, that she will also NOT be able to make any directory assistance calls either. There is no extra charge to not have a carrier, and I think may even be about $5 less as a result. She could still call free directory assistance 1 800-free-411 (1 800-373-3411). If she had long distance calls to be made, they could be made with a calling card (Dollar Store or about anyplace). The call initially is made to an 800 #, and then the card number is keyed in, and then the phone number. That should solve everything, and there not be any more unexpected charges, once you get it set back up on 'Basic Service', and have them note that there are to be no changes unless they are authorized by you. Sometimes employees or other residents will take sometimes take advantage of using the resident's phones for their own personal use, when it is convenient. Sue

Your tale sounds so familiar. My wife, that person who has far more patience than I, dealt with AT&T for possibly six months or longer with every month getting worse. We don't and didn't have Direct TV so at least that part wasn't an issue but every month and sometimes several times a month, she'd call AT&T to complain about the current billing being higher than the last month's bill. And THIS is after she's already been assured that the "next" bill will include the new discounted amount and 'special program $ amount she'd been promised as well as the account being straightened out as to what program we were on, etc. Poor lady must have spoken to 20 different sales reps, none of whom knew what they were talking about nor how to do anything other than guess what key to press or blank to fill in on the screen. Best advice I can offer is to be persistent as well as scream and holler if need be until they finally transfer you to someone with half a brain.
