Wow, PD! That's quite an accomplishment in "a few days"! I'm delighted that you are making such progress (and envious, too!) The real test of your deck and screened porch, though, is still to come: will the dogs accept it? Keep us posted. We'll stay tuned.

How nice--your husband is quite the worker. I'm sure your dog will go out there if you go. I don't know too many dogs who like doghouses. But this area is gorgeous! Congratulations!!

Thanks! Actually the doghouse looked pretty good, but I guess the pooches figured they had sofas & AC in the people house. I don't blame them for not using "their" house!

Still can't make up my mind about what to plant. It will either be Confederate Jasmine or a combo of white clematis & climbing roses. :o)

Speaking from experience, you are going to want gutters on the adjoining eaves: I have one deck that becomes a skating rink...

Orubis...You have no idea how timely your post is! The gutters are going in on Tuesday followed by French drains on Wednesday. :o) We don't have gutters on our current house (never needed them), but the new house is a whole different story. We realized after the first heavy rain that they'd be neccessary. It's been pouring rain for 2 days and there are trenches where it's coming off the house. The puddles are turning into lakes. *sigh*

Since we're on the subject of gutters, we were amazed at the variance in bids that we got for them. We need 141 LF and 10 downspouts with a few miters. We had 4 bids that were between 800-900, 1 for 1700, and another for 2700!!! I think that guy's method of bidding a job was to see how much he owed in bills that month. LOL

Your DH did a great job . . . you have a right to be proud of him! You can remind him how great he is every time you enjoy sitting out there.

Be sure your gutters are wide enough! Mine work beautifully except when it is raining. We have a gutter helmet and the rain just waterfalls at the valleys because of the steep pitch of the roof. The gutter guys put up a barrier at the trouble spots. The barrier does not work and now it catches leaves because the leaves follow the same path that the water does. They said that we should have had a minimum 6 inch gutter instead of the 4 we have. I dunno.They bid it, you would think if they did the bid they could have mentioned that before installation. Check to see what the bid includes.

The porch and deck look like a wonderful addition to your house.
