Observations:

1. I quit using Ad-aware years ago...thought it was unreliable

2. MBAM has saved me more times than I can think of. I don't even know if it cares about cookies.

3. SAS and CCleaner do a great job of taking care of the tracking cookies.

YMMV.

Nothing is perfect. That is why tiered detection is recommended. Stick with both products is my advice.

Yeah, I too started wondering if it just does not care about cookies. The only thing that concerned me was when Ad-aware picked up the Trojan and MBAM did not.

That incident started me wondering if I should continue running checks with MBAM. I still do but decided to ask around...

Just be sure that you update MBAM before running a scan.

also remember that some programs pick up things that are false positives, other programs have been updated to know that is a false positive so will not alert to it. Could be what is happening.

I too quit using Ad Aware years ago when it changed over.

I do still use superantispyware and malwarebytes regularly but always update prior to doing the full scan.

It wouldn't hurt anything to keep AA just as long as it is configured on-demand and not real-time. However, it has not been as progressive and reliant as it use to be.

At one time AA was the flagship of malware detection followed by Spybot. Then some years ago both of them started to lag behind other detection applications and now they are far behind.

To this day I have SB on this system just as an additional tier of detection. Though it now has a beta in the wild,it hasn't had release version for almost 3 years.

MBAM doesn't detect tracking cookies, because they are just that: cookies. All sites give cookies, and they aren't really infectious.

For additional protection, I highly recommend SpywareBlaster, version 4.5

Turning off tracking cookie checking is a configuration option in SuperAntiSpyware. But imagine that will save only a few seconds on total time to scan completion.
Running a cookie cleaner like CCleaner before virus scans will keep the found warnings window less scary looking from all the tracking cookie finds.:)

By default SuperAntiSpyware default configuration is 'only scans known file types' & few times I've noticed when that option is unchecked the computers anti-virus program will additionally pop some extra warnings on the second scan when SAS touches some of the bad guy type files - but it adds alot of time to the scan completion.

I just cleaned one reoccurring virus .. it was acrobat.com would ask to update.. and that was the offending party. So every update... scan again hah.
