I recently replaced a lcd screen on a laptop. I ordered my replacement from Rossman Supply. Took a few days to get it, but we were dealing with an extended holiday weekend. She brought it over and the LCD was completely undamaged. In the corner, it was slightly separated from the frame. The frame was damaged a bit, bent so that the corner of the LCD would not "snap" into place. It would stay in place if we held it with our fingers, but wouldn't be secure. There's also a dent in the base by the keyboard (same corner when it's closed), but that's cosmetic. I turned it off, pried the corner of the frame a bit and snapped the LCD back into place. We both heard it snap in and I could feel it make the connection. To be on the safe side, we used some clear packing tape. You can certainly see the tape, and if you look from certain angles, you can see that it's not quite square, but all in all, it's in pretty good shape. When she called, I thought the repairs would be a couple of hundred dollars if I did them myself, so I'm VERY relieved that it was so easy to fix. And I'm also relieved that my daughter, a senior in high school, didn't insist that we needed to replace the entire case since it no longer looked new.

When this kept happening to me it was always the plug pins not making good contact within the socket - same symptoms just different colours! Normally there isn't a cable inside the computer that is connected to that socket. Instead the socket is soldered directly onto the circuit board and that circuit board slots into a long edge connector on the motherboard. Whip the side panel off and have a look - it could be a dry or cracked joint on the board. The circuit boards are sensitive to static so try to keep the computer and yourself are at the same potential - preferably earthed. Also try to avoid touching the actual circuits. Normally there aren't any high voltages at loose inside the computer - the high ones are all safely contained within the power supply's separate metal screening case but obviously take care! Colin

This action could be an inadvertent combination of keystrokes which you didn't even detect. Usually the arrow keys in combination with the function, control or Alt key. I assisted one lady whose Acer laptop's display kept dimming. Turned out when reading or pondering her typing her hands would unknowingly move to the function key and arrow while at rest thus dimming the display ever so slightly. DA
