if your software did not install properly you should probably go to control panel add remove programs and select to remove it there. Then you can either try to re-install it or just forget about it. My personal preference is to forget about it and go with a card reader. First are you sure your computer does not have a card reader built in to it? Most of the newer ones do. You take the little memory card out of the camera and insert it into the proper slot in the card reader. If you get a usb card reader it simply plugs into a usb port on your pc or a usb hub you have connected to your pc, then once it is ready you just insert the memory card from your camera into the reader. You can then copy the pics directly to the pc or do what ever you want to do with them. Always remember when using any device that plugs into a usb port to use the safely remove icon down in the systray before unplugging from the usb port. Ravencajun, I have a question for you. I have my removable disk in and it won't let me safely remove it. The device generic volume cannot be stopped right now keeps coming up. I have my pictures on there and don't want to lose them. I use Ulead Photo Explorer to view them, I have been deleting extra copys on there. I did go to Task Manager and clicked applications and two things were running in there. 1.)Safely remove hardware icon gone in XP C 2.)Ulead Photo Explorer 8.0 F:\ Running. If I stop them will I lose my pictures? Please, could you give me advice on this problem. Thank you.

Bill the very best way to back up your pc is to make an image of the entire drive that way you have the operating system as well as all your files backed up, you an use an imaging program like Acronis true image or a free one like drive image. You can back those up to a flash drive, a usb hard drive, dvd etc. If you choose to only back up your files then you would put your flash drive in the usb slot, go to my documents for example (right click on start then in the tree go to my documents) and right click on the folder and from the menu select send to, there you will select the appropriate name that has been designated for your flash drive. You can do all your files that way. Once you are done you must remember to click on the safely remove icon in the systray by the clock and select your flash drive from the list and wait till it says it is safe to remove the device. Bus Driver: Several mornings, when I turned on my computer, I got the message that the Maxtor "wasn't there" or something like that. However, I found that if I clicked on the Remove Hardware Safely icon in the System Tray and then unplugged both USB and electric cables and plugged them in again after a minute (even a short time seems to reset it), then I "get it back". For the last three days, I haven't had to do that; it hasn't given me any trouble on start-up, and the mouse has not frozen when I checked the things inside the drive, so I am OK with the way it is now. After all, it only cost $99.99 for 500GB. I wouldn't give it away, although I admit that the next external drive I buy will probably NOT be a Maxtor! Maybe there is hope for your drive, too. You can always turn it off by clicking on the Sys. Tray icon and choosing Exit, but if you are only concerned about saving energy, you can do what CBoy does.
