Help installing cordless mouse and keyboard

I bought a Labtec cordless mouse and keyboard today because of a good rebate deal. To say the least, the install instructions are quite sketchy. What should I do about my present corded accessories? Do I leave these connected until after the cordless ones are activated? I did this and the new ones do not show up in Device Manager. Or should I unplug the corded ones first and then activate the cordless ones? Since the comp did not recognize the cordless ones, I am still using the corded ones to write this. Would appreciate some additional instructions from someone who has done this. Thanks.

Well I have never done it and You requested someone that has, so I give you a link in the mean time old but useful, may clear up the device manger question, and we can wait for others to reply.

Last cordless keyboard I did the driver was installed then you shut down and unplug the wired, plug in the wireless wire - For the trasmitter thingie.

Logitech usually has a CD with huge bunches of softwares to install. Or you could go find it for your model number at their website and search for minimum install drivers.

As this would appear to be a software issue you might consider backing up all your personal stuff and use the recovery feature to re-install everything and return the computer to factory defaults.

I'm not familiar with sony but my Toshiba laptop has a Fn+?? keyfunction to switch from the laptop keyboard to an auxillary keyboard. Perhaps you're set on remote keyboard now,,, maybe read your manual to discover that? If you should finally get ready to reload the system new,, which sounds like the easy thing to do, which should also fix your acpi problems,, then you might want to first try deleting the keyboard from device manager while connected to the internet and then refresh device manager so it looks for new devices. Maybe then it will install the keyboard correctly, of course might need your Fn function for the keyboard is in the right mode before doing that refresh.

You are lucky you had it working for 2 years I got a logitech combo wireless mouse and keyboard for Christmas it worked ok for about 3 weeks then it just went wacky. Started typing random letters across the page and the mouse seemed to only work when it wanted to. I returned it. Went back to my plug in keyboard and my GE wireless optical mini mouse. Works great.

Howdy. I run AVG,IE7,and Windows XP. They are always updating. When they're doing a lot it causes my computer to conform similar to what you said about yours. Usually their updating is so minimal it's never noticed. But, for instance, this morning they were doing quite a lot on my system. When that happens my mouse doesn't function smoothly and much of my typing takes a second or so to catch up to the screen. It is a little irritating but I know they ususally finish doing their thing in five or ten minutes. Sometimes I just watch their activity by going to Windows Defender - Currently Running Programs - Task Manager (lower right) - All Users (full screen). I also do a Google search on programs that I might wonder about. I suppose one might access it a little easier if they knew how. Regards, Gene

(expanding what Mikie said...)
Try shutting down the computer. Unplug your keyboard
and mouse, and then plug in the wireless pick-up(s)
for the new keyboard and mouse.
Turn on your new equipment and turn on the computer.
All should be well.
You don't ordinarily need to use the installation CD.
It usually just has a bunch of junk on it anyway.

Thanks, fellas! All done now. I followed txKen's directions about unplugging the existing keyboard and mouse before plugging in the little wireless gizmo. When I did it in the right order, my computer recognized the new hardware and then I activated the mouse and keyboard. No software at all with this---strictly plug and pray.
