Problems with new iPod, bonjour and downloads

I am going crazy trying to figure out what is wrong. We already had other iPods and iTunes was loaded on my PC. But my daughter got a new iPod for Christmas. The instructions said to download the latest version of iTunes so I did. Probably a big mistake....

Her iPod was not recognized. Based on the Help section of iTunes, I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it. Partway through the reinstall I got this message:

"Bonjour Service failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

I then spent 2 hours on the phone with Apple Support and they walked me through various steps and several uninstalls and reinstalls. Nothing worked.

So Apple Support decided that I must have a Microsoft problem. I have verified that I am the System Administrator. I even tried a System Restore thinking that I restore back to 12/24 and try using my old iTunes. but I got a message that System Restore could not help me.

I don't know what to try next!
