Steps to Remove IE8 on Windows XP

* Click on the Start button and choose Run.
* Next, type the following line into the Run box, exactly as shown:
%windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe
* Press Enter and follow the prompts.
* When it is done uninstalling, REBOOT your computer.

If it is as you say a work site and on it you might be looking at confidential work product, you might want to first consider trying to resolve the access concern with IE8. I share this as IE8 is the most secure version released to date.

Hi,
I answered ( maybe incorrectly) my own question by doing a system restore to a few weeks ago. This solved my "work " problem, but now I can't access my camera program installed after Christmas. It needs sp3 or IE8 to work correctly. I now have neither. Damcoy is correct in my needing to resolve the work issue , but how may I go about that when their tech support is off till after the holiday and I don't quite get how to access help from I.E. , Microsoft.

I find that hard to believe that a camera program needs SP3 or IE8 to function. Show me the documentation that tells you that Reinstall the camera program maybe.

IE8 has been problematic with Windows XP from the beginning.

well according to that it can be used on xp sp2 and you sure should have that. Service Pack 2 did not have IE8 so if it works with sp2 it should work with Ie7 too.

did you by any chance have sp3 and did a system restore to get rid of it? if so that may have caused you some serious problems, that is never the way to remove a service pack it should always be done by add remove programs otherwise you have a mismash of service packs.

maybe we need to know exactly what all has been done.

Our standard build at work is on an IE 6 platform. I'd like to try the steps in post 2 (thanks Zep) because currently we are having to either create a fresh profile for the user after uninstalling through add/remove and rebooting, or if that is not effective, we reinstall XP Pro. We have a lot of software that was developed pre-IE 8 that just will not work with it and the fix is long and laborious. We are finding that uninstalling does not restore us back to IE 6 completely. I hope that's not the case for you Salbwil. Why not just let Window native Camera wizard download your photos?

When IE8 keeps trying to install on your computer you can put
a stop to that. I can't remember the exact steps but start
as if you were going to install it. Only after you start
click on custom and you will be given the option to not
Install. You figure it out but if done right IE8 won't keep
trying to Install and you will be left with IE6

Thanks for all the suggestions and help; as of now things seem to be working. I reinstalled my camera disk, ignoring the warning that SP 3 was needed.....so far so good, and the itunes went in ok also. I seem to be able to access work site and think PKponder is correct in his surmising that IE6 is their platform. I know others at work have complained about access and they have new computers with up to date programs.If things go wonky again, I know the answers are to be found here.
