Witz right you are, indeed Bill P did decline and we all think very highly of him in the security community for doing so. Way to go Bill!! He is such a great guy anyway and that just proves it even more and WinPatrol is sure worth it. I know all of them want to create programs to help us all stay safe and make it easier for the support community to keep the pc's clean, the more clean ones we have the less we all suffer. It is a pay it forward thing for many of them, they just want to help. some unfortunately do end up giving in to the lure of the almighty dollar, I do not think that would be happening nearly as much if we all did contribute more to them in donations. It cost a lot of money to keep those sites up and running and time and effort to create the programs. I applaud them all and do get on the soap box occasionally to try to make people understand how valuable these people are and how supporting their free products is a worthwhile effort.

About Vista...Nobody is madly in love with it. I originally thought Microsoft was going to force feed us Vista, but there are so many speed bumps...that can't do it. As we all have noticed, most mainstream new computers didn't offer the choice, Vista or nothing. That's changing. Probably because manufacturer's can't deal with the headaches...and particularly HP who is selling Vista Premium on computers ill-equiped for the graphic laden OS. Gamers are the big problem. That's a big headache for Microsoft, because gaming is the premise of what Vista is built upon. Even my little Morrowind 2002 game forum over at CNET's Gamespot have posters complaining loud and clear. ______________

Unfortunately there are of course a lot of variables. However, I have found some Office installations claim to have been removed - but aren't entirely. Ergo the reference in the Microsoft link to the "Windows Installer Cleanup utility" which worked, but was subsequently withdrawn for reasons stated. Please refer to the MS link to perform a drive check. Once completed, the defragmentation can be performed via the same route - the 'Defragment now' button is directly below the 'Check now' button. Vala, I was in the same mindset as you, it would cost about $300 to replace the bad parts then extra for them to reload everything onto the new HD, but I would still be stuck with an older computer and OS, which means the parts are also getting older and can go out at any time. Instead of chancing having to fix it over and over, I chose a new one with Windows 7 (64bit) and MS Office 2010 for just a couple hundred more. Also, now I have a warranty again in case it does go downhill. Sorry about that Raven, I will try again. BTW, everytime I see your name I crave crawfish etoufee!!!
