New Zone Alarm Version out to fix problem

Download and install the latest versions

they have issued a new version of zone alarm all types on that webpage to correct the problem caused by the latest microsft update.

If you have zone alarm you can go there and get the new version, many have just put it right over the top of the existing version and it worked fine. After you get the new version be sure if you had set your slider to medium from high to go back and set it BACK to high! Then you can go ahead and get the microsoft update.

So that was what that was all about?

On Tuesday I did lose my Internet. That happens once in a while, so after trying to get it back with the modem or a Restart, I gave up because I had to go out. I was gone 3-4 hours and when I came back to the pc, the Internet was fine.

I did not get any notice about KB95174, but I did notice that my cursor had the heebiejeebies and staggered around trying to find what it was looking for.

I decided the mouse needed cleaning, but that didn't help.
Anyhow now I see all this about the KB951748 update and ZA. I just got the new version of ZA, and checked on Windows Updates but saw nothing about the KB951748.

Also, did we ever get the green light on the XPSP3? Winupdates still wants me to take it.

Confused, but everything seems to be working okay.

Pinecone, I have known people who just use the built-in Windows firewall, however the downside is it does not monitor outbound traffic. I would like to think that most, but not all, people would agree that a third party firewall that monitors both inbound and outbound traffic is the best way to go. " As Luis stated Zone Alarm will present you with a pop-up window letting you know that an application or program wants to access the internet. It will give you the option of 'Yes' or 'No' and list the application that wants access, such as 'Internet Explorer' or whatever programs you have. There is also a 'More info' button in the alert. If the program is one you recognize and use all the time, you can click 'Yes' and select the box 'Remember this info_______' to keep from being bothered with the same request all the time. If it is a program you don't recognize I would click 'No', but not necessarily select 'Remember this info'. If the request keeps coming up and you don't recognize the program and the 'More info' button does not give you the info you need you may want to 'google' and see what it says. Jane, I do not have Vista but help a few who do. From reports I have read elsewhere it would certainly appear that the MS firewall is a capable program. Any negative comments seem to come from the anti MS crowd rather than with substantial info to support any doubts on the firewall. As I noted I was asking out of curiosity in case perhaps you had read anything to suggest the MS firewall was not up to par. Ta-da!!! I fixed it. For the 31st time (!) I opened ZA and looked through the various screens. I found "Appplication Control" and for Spywareblaster there were red "X's" under "inbound" and "outbound". In this same table SAS (which is updating) had green checks. There was no indication that I could/should click on the "X's" but I thought to do so; a menu appeared which allowed me to change the red "X's" to green checks. After this, when I tried to update Spywareblaster, it worked. Thank you all for considering my problem. Mike_kaiser, you're probably correct, and I'm heavy on the security programs. This computer is about 7 years old and over the years, I've slowly added these programs (and very recently, the router) as they've been recommended here. When one has been recommended I don't recall a corresponding recommendation to get rid of "x". So the list has grown. My computer seems to be running fine and isn't particularly slow so I haven't inquired about what I could remove.

I posted the link to the other thread for you so that you could go in there and get the link to the actual fixed version of zone alarm, from that thread here is the link that you would have found there. Download and install the latest versions which solve the loss of internet access problem here under that Recommended actions it has the links to every single version of the zone alarm updates if you use the free that would be the basic firewall. If you click on that link there it gives you the actual exe to download. What you were looking at on the site you posted was a trial for the zone alarm security suite NOT the free one, if you just look over to the right on that page there is a button for the basic firewall only UPDATE that is what you would want and when you hit that it gives the exe also.

I can't get ZA to work. Keep getting the message to log on to Vector Service. When I do, I get the message I must log off Vector Service. No matter what I do I can't get it in. I didn't install the MS update.

So what do I do now? I'm using MS Firewall to get here.

Should I uninstall ZA completely? I hate to do that and lose all my settings.

I've had this problem for the last few days. I was coming here to post the question when I saw this thread. Fantastic!

Each a.m. I have to go in and re-remove KB951748. This morning I was able to do a custom install of updates, so I unchecked KB951748. I'll look at some of the links and suggestions here and decide what to do.

Raven, the fix is not really a fix unless you are comfortable keeping ZA set to medium.

Just wondering, did you run into these problems or are you using a different firewall?

when you get the updated version for zone alarm you no longer have to keep it at medium you go back to high, moving the slider to medium was/ is only for those that have not updated their zone alarm to the latest updated fixed version.

I use an old version of zone alarm pro the old versions were not affected.

You will see on the page I linked to from zone alarm in the center it says recommended actions:
Recommended Actions -

Download and install the latest versions which solve the loss of internet access problem here (English only):
then there are the links to the new versions of zone alarm you select the one that you have be it za free basic firewall or za suite. The other options listed below that are only for if you did not do this step.

This is the version number you want to have it is the latest updated one. 7.0.483.000
ONLY get these from the zone alarm site to make sure you are getting the fixed version or by going into your zone alarm program and hitting the update button it will get the update for you.
