New Zone Alarm Version out to fix problem

Download and install the latest versions

they have issued a new version of zone alarm all types on that webpage to correct the problem caused by the latest microsft update.

If you have zone alarm you can go there and get the new version, many have just put it right over the top of the existing version and it worked fine. After you get the new version be sure if you had set your slider to medium from high to go back and set it BACK to high! Then you can go ahead and get the microsoft update.

So that was what that was all about?

On Tuesday I did lose my Internet. That happens once in a while, so after trying to get it back with the modem or a Restart, I gave up because I had to go out. I was gone 3-4 hours and when I came back to the pc, the Internet was fine.

I did not get any notice about KB95174, but I did notice that my cursor had the heebiejeebies and staggered around trying to find what it was looking for.

I decided the mouse needed cleaning, but that didn't help.
Anyhow now I see all this about the KB951748 update and ZA. I just got the new version of ZA, and checked on Windows Updates but saw nothing about the KB951748.

Also, did we ever get the green light on the XPSP3? Winupdates still wants me to take it.

Confused, but everything seems to be working okay.

That is not the case for most users, have you done the registration? did you try a reboot? here is the evidence that the new versions can be moved to high. this is the free This is a post from dslr from a user that had his show no high option also and what his experience was "I continued playing with this and wanted to update folks based on this. I downloaded revo uninstaller to help me remove ZA. As I was playing with ZA, I noticed that I now had high security set in ZA! What?!! Where before it would not let me change the setting from medium to high (it displayed a message saying this was only available in ZA Pro) now it was automatically set to High! I looked at the version info to be sure ZA did not somehow give me a PRO version. Still shows free version, but now I can set it to HIGH security. I don't know what changed, except perhaps the "registration" took place between these two settings. I agreed to register this free version, and all I can think of is sometime after I installed/rebooted/ran it, the registration completed and ZA now allows me to set the security to high. This is really odd behavior. Right now i am running ver. 7.0.483.00 and it is now letting me run stealth mode (I think!). I am going to do some tests to see that stealth mode is actually enabled. Will post an update if I find that is not the case. Sorry if I caused a ruckus, but I have never seen any FW do something like this. I used to have zone alarm but when I installed Windows 7 I decided not to reinstall it. Usually when a product upgrades itself it automatically gets rid of the old installation, this being the case with ZA if I remember correctly. Installation for firewall/antivirus software is pretty straightforward. Usually the default settings are the best choices for the average user. As for the drive situation it kinda depends on what operating system you are running to determine the easiest solution. Windows 7 has a new thing called libraries that makes it easy to link folders from different drives into one place. In older versions of Windows or Linux or Mac OS's I would suggest moving all non program files taking space on your C drive to your E drive. This frees up space for any programs that need to be installed on the C drive. I am new to this forum so I am not quite sure why your posts run off the page. It might be an issue with your screen resolution being too small for the web page to fit all in one screen or maybe a browser setting.

First you need to see if this is a legit program called System Mechanic or a virus called System check - from what I have just read. What are you trying to achieve? What operating system do you have? Only you can decide if you wish to spend the money, I like free programs personally. This is one of those cases where I advise something I always fail to do myself. One should create a Restore point prior to installing stuff so they can revert if the new software does not live up to expectation.

Its ba a a ccckkk! It came back a couple days ago, but I haven't had time to do anything about it until today. I checked out every thing I could find that was even remotely connected to ZA Help/ Support forums. Most of what I found had to do with wireless stuff. I have nothing wireless. I found a reference to the new ZA version that was supposed to fix the problem, but no link to where to get it. So Google to the rescue; I googled "latest version of Zone Alarm" and got it at Major Geeks. Version 9.3.014.000, the one Zep mentioned. I downloaded it. No problem, did the restart, and there it was again. I shut down. Still there. At this point I guess I will choose the Internet Zone and hope it goes away. I know RC has said many times, and again in this thread, not to allow the Trusted Zone if you don't know what it is. Any last minute suggestions/advice before I hit the ok button? TIA Sue

I can't get ZA to work. Keep getting the message to log on to Vector Service. When I do, I get the message I must log off Vector Service. No matter what I do I can't get it in. I didn't install the MS update.

So what do I do now? I'm using MS Firewall to get here.

Should I uninstall ZA completely? I hate to do that and lose all my settings.

I've had this problem for the last few days. I was coming here to post the question when I saw this thread. Fantastic!

Each a.m. I have to go in and re-remove KB951748. This morning I was able to do a custom install of updates, so I unchecked KB951748. I'll look at some of the links and suggestions here and decide what to do.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

Raven, the fix is not really a fix unless you are comfortable keeping ZA set to medium.

Just wondering, did you run into these problems or are you using a different firewall?

when you get the updated version for zone alarm you no longer have to keep it at medium you go back to high, moving the slider to medium was/ is only for those that have not updated their zone alarm to the latest updated fixed version.

I use an old version of zone alarm pro the old versions were not affected.

You will see on the page I linked to from zone alarm in the center it says recommended actions:
Recommended Actions -

Download and install the latest versions which solve the loss of internet access problem here (English only):
then there are the links to the new versions of zone alarm you select the one that you have be it za free basic firewall or za suite. The other options listed below that are only for if you did not do this step.

This is the version number you want to have it is the latest updated one. 7.0.483.000
ONLY get these from the zone alarm site to make sure you are getting the fixed version or by going into your zone alarm program and hitting the update button it will get the update for you.
