I will tell you how I do it, but be forewarned I have no idea if this is the proper way lol. I take the cutting, dip the fresh cut end in rooting hormone powder, then put it in a wet paper towel. Then I place that in a cup of dirt, and I slowly move up the container sizes if it works. I personally like to graft mine onto citation rootstock after its growing well. My neighbors and I root from cuttings frequently. How long has the branch been down?

The other three are different varieties. And I honestly didn't think I would have success with the cuttings I took from the neighbor's bush. It is kinda like tomato plants....I can't kill them now that they appear to be still living. I have plenty of acreage to set them out once they are growing well next year. I tried the coir (the stuff that comes in a brick) because 1) I had it and didn't have any perlite 2) it drains well yet still holds moisture - something I read was important. Thanks for the soak in a bucket trick. I am going to try to separate and repot. I think they will be fine in the smaller pots till spring. We only have a couple more months before fall then frost which should slow growth.

I cut down my roses and put them in water. how long will it take for the roots to shop up. I have them in plastic cups under grow light leaving the light on for 10 hours a day I hope they root I have 25 plastic cups of 8 inches high I try a few last year in earth but they all died this year water hope it will work

Algae is not a problem, it likes light and moisture and can indicate a good growing environment. I wouldn't reduce the humidity yet. Once fully branched roots appear (I've read at least 2" long), I pot mine up. Depending on when I start the cuttings (January to March) this might be end of June to end of July. The pots get bagged to keep the humidity up for another month. After being in the bags for a couple of weeks, I begin venting the bags gradually over the next couple of weeks. (you can see knife slits in the sides of the bag). Tray of potted rooted cuttings in enclosed plastic bags after potting: (Fancy eh?) After a month in the bags, they stay put, outside on the same shade table, getting watered/misted frequently. Our relative humidity in summer is 100% at night and about 65% daytime so misting is mid to late day and I don't worry about them at night. By September here, the nights begin to cool. Even low to mid 30's by then, so things tend to quit growing and harden off by the end of the month. Of coarse, this all varies year to year. Hope this helps. :-)
