* Go into Start -> settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services

* Make a right click on "Smart Card" and left-click on "Properties"

* In the window which pop´s up you have to stop the service and disable it with choosing "Disabled" at the option "Startup Type"

After that your flashdrive service is disabled and you won´t get that annoying errormessage anymore.

I have the same problem with my new Toshiba A10/700 notebook. If you disable the flash cards, you cannot access anything through the Fn keys. This means you cannot change the screen brightness, which is vital for anyone (like me) who has calibrated their screen for photography.

Toshiba support here in Sydney have told me that they're working on it, and have directed me to the Canadian site where you can download a new version of the Value Added Pack for this model. You uninstall the old one and install this. It the freezes sometimes instead of always. This is not good enough. I'm going to call the store where I boght this notebook a few weeks ago and ask them to exchange it for another brand.

so it seems this is an ongoing problem with Toshiba and they are aware of it and are working on a fix but the fix so far does not seem quite there yet.
Is this a new pc? If so I would contact them directly and request some help or replacement.

Try to disable the flash cards and see if the issue goes away.. Flash cards add additional function to the function keys f1 ect. You may not even be using this function.

Start
- All Programs
-- Toshiba
--- utilities
----Setting for Flash Cards
- Check "Disable TOSHIBA Flash Cards"

Remember the steps should you want them re- enabled.

From there you can change around a lot of things about the flash cards, primarily disabling the drop down menu by deselecting bring up flash cards with mouse.

That way, you can keep the functionality of your fn keys...

If you disable flash cards you lose your fn keys, I have no idea about resolution though... I didn't notice a difference.

I am a certified Toshiba Repair tech. I work on them all day. Flashcards can go totally crazy and turn things off and on. Like say the the touchpad. Only way to reenable the touchpad is to use a usb mouse and actually click the icon on flashcards to enable the touchpad.

Recently we have seen the units being set to use only external monitors. Just going back in and using flashcards does fix it if the OS is in good shape. If its not you will need to repair the OS/reinstall everything to just click on the stupid flashcards app.

I'm in that spot right now. Seems the Flashcards app is corrupt(cant uninstall or reinstall - Runtime error) and I can't get the LCD to turn back on. I may have to just replace the hard drive and motherboard due to not having any restore media for the unit.

Terrible...terrible application.

Thank you for the help. I had tried google for this problem and also the Scripts error that I keep getting. I'm on a miserable dial-up server and research is sooooo slow that I run out of time. I did the uncheck for bringing up FC with mouse.....hopefully that will work. Again thanks.
