Take off Vista - Install Windows XP

Hello! I am new to the Computer forum, but not GW.

I have a Toshiba notebook computer that came with Windows VISTA. For various reasons, I dislike Vista more than I can say. But the main reason is my older accounting software is not Vista compatible. I cannot back up or email updates to my accountant.

I had a Compaq notebook before and still have the Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 CD.

Is there any reason that I cannot use the Compaq/HP disc on the Toshiba? The booklet that came with the Toshiba says it is "enhanced for Compaq notebooks. The enhancements add power and security features and provide supplementary support for external devices such as drives and PC Cards."

Again, any reason I should not put on the Toshiba?

If so, I suppose my best option is to download Windows XP from the Microsoft website or make a trip to Best Buy before they stop selling XP. ???

Also, I had asked a Geek about doing this. He said I did not need to delete Vista from the computer before installing XP. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance for suggestions and comments.

Allison
