Anyone have a GOOD experience with Dacor oven?

I like the Epicure so much, but I have heard very little to recommend it in actual use. I have been leaning toward them Miele because of the negative reports on Dacor here on GW. My favorite appliance store carries Dacor, not Miele. I would love to give them my business, but I am considering ordering the Miele online (was going to another B&M store here in northern VA, but according to another thread, it closed yesterday).

Anyway, if you love your Dacor or have had great customer service, please let me know. I really want to weigh all my options carefully.

We have had the Epicure classic for a little over a year now with no problems. Does what it is supposed to do: gets hot, stays hot and cooks food. Doesn't make much noise, and doesn't seem to heat up the kitchen too much. We are not fussy bakers-no fancy bread or cakes or whatever. More roasting, braising, casserole baking. So if you do desert baking, or soufflÃ©s can't comment on how it would perform. But for our needs, it is fine. (Did a great job on the Thanksgiving bird!)

I was seriously considering the Dacor. I REALLY wanted it to be the ONE. I went to our local appliance store and met with the chef who cooks their full time, using the Dacor, Miele, Wolf, and other ovens in the working kitchens there. He said up until a few months ago he commonly recommended the Dacor oven, but at both their stores the Dacor ovens that are 2+ years old have started have major issues with heating evenly. Such as when they bake multiple trays of cookies some of the cookies will be over baked while others are still not done. He said a year ago when they did the same demo in the same ovens the cookies baked evenly. That, with what I have read here, has been enough for me to drop the Dacro from our list. Now I am looking at the GE Monogram, Wolf, and Miele.

Sorry for the delay - did you already order your Dacor? I think any appliance can have major problems - sometimes it's just one issue, at times it seems like the thing is a piece of junk, other times you would swear the manufacturer is trying to see how far they can go in selling a poorly designed product. I hope you searched through these forums for the opinions of other owners of Dacor appliances. My oven arrived in perfect condition, but others here have had a terrible time with cosmetic issues. I personally think it's a decent oven - I'm not prone to excessive praise. I was the first to report that the meat probe did not beep (as stated in the owner's manual) when the meat reached the set temperature and contacted Dacor. Dacor then redesigned the control panel - it took about 5 months - and then replaced my old control with a new one - which corrected the meat probe problem. I haven't had any other problems with my Discovery. I've now had it for just over a year and before that I had the previous model - the Classic. I wish it had a continuous digital read out of the oven temperature - but most ovens don't have that feature either. The broiler works great, the glide rack is amazing - it holds a heavy Le Creuset casserole and still slides in and out easily.

All micro drawers are made by Sharp regardless of the logo on front and none have convection oven features. I'm still not comprehending the math. A miele single oven + speed oven would be the same or less than two T'dor ovens incld. the 301. If you're saying that oven "x" is cheaper than a Miele single oven, I can grasp that - put it in the column. Now we're looking at the speed oven and I'm pretty sure the 301 is going to be the most expensive one out there so I'm having a hard time squaring the total column. I mean the cheapest Tdor single is $2500 +/- so you're looking at 6500 bucks total package. How much were you quoted on the Miele pair??? Even going top of the line you'd be looking at +500 for the miele pair, but get better functionality and reliability for less than 10%. T'dor ovens have had some issues and recalls recently. If you were willing to forgo some bells and whistles you could whittle a miele set to $5700-$5800. Calculations aside - the micro drawer is a nice bit of kit for undercounter. I thinks it's main drawback is most have motorized door opening and it's a bit slow for my tastes. Second I find it awkward for just warming up a cup of cocoa or tea. If you don't use a micro for tasks like that or are as impatient as my crowd , it becomes moot. $10k is a good budget for those four and you have plenty of options.

They look great, now. But in 10 years they will probably look dated -- or worse, break. Then what do you do? You can build in an oven and replace it when it wears out with an oven that will fit the same hole - because wall ovens come in standard sizes. But coffeemakers do not. There is no guarantee that even Dacor will make a coffemaker 10 years from now that will exactly fit the hole in your cabinet. You are just asking for trouble. Nor does it necessarily make better coffee. If you want a coffee bar, build in a tiled (corianed?, silestoned?, granited?) recess and put your stand alone, replacable coffee maker in that. You can even run a small faucet into the recess for handy water-- but if you do, also add a drain for the certain-to-come day when you overfill and water goes everywhere -- or worse yet, the kids decide to see what happens if.

I had a terrible experience with Graff. I purchased their Solar faucet from Amazon and the chrome finish peeled off in less an year. They refused to honor their lifetime warranty on chrome finishes and were extremely rude to me to boot. I contacted Amazon, which in turn called Graff and confirmed that the faucet I purchased was new and genuine. It was shipped and sold by Amazon, not a third party seller from Amazon. Graff still refused to send a replacement handle. I'm including a photo of the defective finish. I highly recommend not purchasing Graff. There are many other high end brands that are happy to honor their warranties and treat customers properly. Graff is not one of those companies. Toto, on the other hand, sent me a brand new showerhead simply because a LED light was malfunctioning and they did not want me to wait for the backordered light. They rock!

I know you are looking for positive but I cannot in good conscience stand by and let someone be taken in by Dacor's beautiful facade. I have 2 Dacor products -a range ER36D and the Discovery oven and I have NO working oven AND it is Christmas! They had promised me a new oven on Nov 9 2007(a third one) and now I cannot get anyone from Dacor to call me back. The range has had it's board replaced. (Before that it had a chipped door replaced.) They told me that the board had to be re engineered and the second one is worse than the first. The first seemed to be more accurate in temp but would lose temp with any load and could not be adjusted upward. Now it runs 25-30 degrees too hot and can't be adjusted upwardly-takes 30 min to move 75-100 degrees. The oven arrived all chipped up. The replacement had a crooked door and bakes very unevenly. It can't be adjusted upwardly either and loses temperature. It has had hinges and the board replaced. The kicker on Thanksgiving is that the plastic knob on the range cracked and fell off and o yes the probe plastic is split after just a few uses. The oven readings are very deceiving so it takes a little bit of time and a good thermometer to figure out what is going on. I don't know what has happened to this company, but it is very sad. I recently "redid" my kitchen including doubling it's size. You expect to have a few bumps and do along the road and we did, but everyone I worked with was great and I am thrilled with every other aspect of my kitchen. The most loyal customer is the one who has problems and they are treated right and problems are remedied. Dacor does not seem to make customer service a priotiy at all. Even the local rep does not seem to understand the concept of the return phone call. There is one positive, my neighbor has a Dacor oven and cooktop 4-5 years old and likes it. No problems. Excuse me if I am a little frazzeled. I have 4 large Christmas parties coming up and no ovens. YIKES!

  5. If I get tired getting ready for the holidays I can always duck in the range oven for a quick nap
  4. Multi colored Discovery oven Board can be configured in Christmas colors to add a festive ambiance to the room.
  3. Pull out racks make a great little snack table for Santa's milk and cookies.

  1. We found out while trying to bake cookies that these ovens really are great 1 step biscotti makers.

We started having oven problems and I found this site - unfortunately I am not alone... We have the ER36D Dual fuel range and love the gas burners. They are outstanding.

But I thought I was having temp problems at Thanksgiving - the oven did not seem hot enough and the turkey took forever..
So I bought an oven thermometer and kept an eye on the next few items - The oven does not heat up if you tell it too.. If I start something at 350 and want to go to 450... It won't budge..

These posts are bumming me out because It looks like there is not a real fix out there...

We are going to contact service this week and I will most likely buy an extended warranty (just in case this drags out..)

I am also considering ovens however for no specific reason Miele has been on the top of the short list. Can you explain what about DACOR ovens that are so enthusiastic about.
