Can't get Windows Media Player 11 to load

When we try to setup WMP11, we get a message that says

"It was not possible to complete setup; WMP11 was not installed. Restart Windows and then run WMP setup again.

For more assistance, click Web help. We've tried restarting and reloading and just get the same thing. Then tried Web help and it says "You've encountered error message C00D2AFB while using WMP. Additional information is not currently available for this error. We have version 10, but every time we click on it, we have to run through the setup. Any suggestions?

What operating system do you use? What previous version of windows media have you been using before you decided to up-grade to WMP 11... Below is the required operating system:

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (SP2), Windows XP Professional SP2, or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition SP2.

Sorry about that. I'm using Windows Home Edition Service Pack 2. The version of WMP I currently have is 10.

You can select which file types are to be associated with which player. Just de select all the file types associated with WMP that you don't want it to handle. Tools/Options/File Types Your current player should continue to handle the file types previously assigned.

What operating system are you using? If your missing that "About" feature, seems like something is wrong, open and close windows media player, reboot the computer, see if you can get that feature back. Windows Media Player 12 comes as part of Windows 7. "In Step 4, you have choice to choose selected file type to play as default with Windows Media Player. You need to click on "Choose defaults for this program" and then select file types that you want to associate with Windows Media Player." See link below,for more on above. Windows media has all kinds of funny digital rights components. You might goto update.microsoft.com and push the Custom button and see if it offers you any noncritical updates for media player.

Windows Media Player won't play avi file from Digital Blue scope

It's not on a site. The video was taken with the computerized microscope named Digital Blue. (It's a "toy" scope for kids but big kids like to play, too.) The files played on the original computer when I used the Digital Blue software. I exported the files from the Digital Blue folder then, once exported, copied to my thunb drive so that I could transfer to my computer. As I said, they won't play on my computers (both Vista) even though they both play avi files from other sources. I also tried to convert to another format via zamzar but received error message unable to convert. (Sorry, I don't recall precise wording. Could try again if it's important.)

Ok you have version 10, and it works, but every time you use it goes through a set up routine and then functions correctly?

Is this correct? My thinking here is lets try to get 10 work correctly.

Also when you click on Media player 10, Are you may clicking on the SET-UP file on the desk top. instead of the actual player it self, try clicking START>PROGRAMS> Now look for windows Media player there and open it perhaps that is the problem

Tried the START>PROGRAMS> thing and WMP10 came right up. Maybe it's working correctly and I just don't know it. I was sent what I think is called a streaming video and when I tried to play at first even when manually opening WMP10, it wouldn't play. Not sure what I did, but now if I open it manually it plays. I was under the impression that it would open automatically. Should it? Then again, do I really need or want WMP11. Thanks for any help you can give me.

no you do not need 11, I do not know a whole lot about windows media players, but yes on some files and it should open automatically. Now if you want go back in programs put you mouse over windows media player(Icon) left click an hold now in one motion drag it to an empty space on desk top let go, you will have a short cut to windows media player on the desk top..
