Spybot-Search &Destroy notice, what does it mean??

This notice appeared on my computer, right out of the blue. I have no idea what to do with it. Your help will be appreciated

Spybot-Search & Destroy has detected an important registry entry that has been changed.

Catagory.......... System Startup global entry

Change............ Value added

Entry............. wextract_cleanupO

New data.......... rundll32.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\advpac

At the bottom of this notice there are several boxes to click on, such as :

allow change........info...........deny change

Did you download something? If you didn't I would click on
Deny change

cboy, yes i downloaded the javara free program [talked about in another thread] to clear some old outdated java that was listed on the add/remove control panel.

I also updated the CCleaner to the latest version yesterday.

Those are the only two that I have downloaded lately.

Thanks Mikie I really appreciate this. I do have one more question. Is this a simple download or is there anything she needs to know before she downloads this? The people where I purchased my computer downloaded it for me, so I have no idea what to tell her to do on this download. Does she click on Run or Save? I"ve never been overly impressed with the free version of AA. My experiemces and from my readings I found it always to be "lite" and transparant. I used it in the old days along with S&D as there was nothing else to replace it. Now that there are other more viable options I wonder if AA's time has past. When using AA I have never found anything other than cookies and insignificant data miners. I know of no one else who has ever detected anything significant with it, and delving into my memmory I do not recall anyone here reporting a horrific discovery. The same can be said for the other forums I participate in. I ask, Has anyone ever detected a viable threat on their system using AA? DA

Mikie, I am quite sure they will fix your repoerted concern as Safer Networking Limited has historically been very responsible in fixing bugs. Howevr, there timeliness can cause some frustration. SNL knew about the slow starting as I referred to earlier. In fact, on their homepage where they announce v1.5.2 they apologize for it. It just took them quite a while to resolve the concern. Rita, Please rethink your position on CCleaner. It's fast and user friendly. Just use it with its default settings. The only people I hear having concerns are those who tinker with the original configuration. It is quite similar to the old Win 98 compatible CleanUp. If you do use the registry feature, it offers an options of saving anything a user delets. DA

Spybot having compatiblity Issues with the new AdAware

Hi ravencajun, When the old AdAware went down I had no idea where to go, it all was so confusing to me, so I decided to put the new AdAware in to see how it would do. It has done well up until now and this is the first time that I have had compatiblity Issues with Spybot Search And Destroy. I have had AdAware several months now. This is really odd, cause I would have thought there would have been problems before now. Do I just take AdAware out using Add/Remove Programs? Will that get it all out? How is the install for superantispyware, is it hard to download or is it a simple install? What is your personal opinion of superantispyware? Pros & Cons. If you don't mind doing that for me? lotodig,

If you look in your c:\windows\system32 folder you will find a valid Microsoft Windows program named wextract.exe. This program is used by windows to clean up after itself when programs/updates, etc. are installed. It is placed in the "Run Once" portion of the Windows Registry for the sole purpose of cleaning up the next time Windows is rebooted. It is safe to allow it to run. HTH.

do you happen to have spybots tea timer turned on? it alerts you to any type of change that happens, it can be very frustrating. I no longer use it, I did at one time. But that sounds like what popped that warning up.

when javara cleans stuff out it will change things since it is deleting your old versions so it will trigger those.
