Spybot having compatiblity Issues with the new AdAware

This keeps popping up. I have WinXP Service Pack 2.

This is what Spybot Search and Destroy is saying.

If you have the AdAware option to scan inside archives enabled, AdAware may find files in the Spybot-S&D folder. Spybot-S&D does not contain any spyware, but it creates backups of everything you fix (until you remove those backups from the Recovery list), and AdAware complains about these backups. You can safely ignore these backups found by AdAware.

AdAware says I have 12 infections, I am wondering is that because of Spybot? I don't know how to go in and check on AdAware to see what these infections are, Plus I don't know if I should get rid of the backups in Spybot Search And Destroy if I need to.

Does anyone have Spybot and AdAware the newest version? I have never had this happen to me before so I am unsure what I need to check on in both of these programs.

I would greatly appreciate directions on how to find out this stuff in AdAware and Spybot Search And Destroy.

no I quit using AdAware a long while back it just was not up to par any more, now the best choice is superantispyware.

It is not that uncommon though for certain programs like that to have false positives on other antispyware programs as it says there it is hitting on the backups.

Hi ravencajun,

When the old AdAware went down I had no idea where to go, it all was so confusing to me, so I decided to put the new AdAware in to see how it would do. It has done well up until now and this is the first time that I have had compatiblity Issues with Spybot Search And Destroy. I have had AdAware several months now. This is really odd, cause I would have thought there would have been problems before now.

Do I just take AdAware out using Add/Remove Programs? Will that get it all out?
How is the install for superantispyware, is it hard to download or is it a simple install? What is your personal opinion of superantispyware? Pros & Cons. If you don't mind doing that for me?

I"ve never been overly impressed with the free version of AA. My experiemces and from my readings I found it always to be "lite" and transparant. I used it in the old days along with S&D as there was nothing else to replace it. Now that there are other more viable options I wonder if AA's time has past. When using AA I have never found anything other than cookies and insignificant data miners. I know of no one else who has ever detected anything significant with it, and delving into my memmory I do not recall anyone here reporting a horrific discovery. The same can be said for the other forums I participate in. I ask, Has anyone ever detected a viable threat on their system using AA? DA

I had the same question as Marian. I followed your instructions, Mikie, but I'm still stumped. I clicked the little + sign and a list appeared, all with boxes. I clicked on the Tracking Cookie box at the top, and it automatically checked all the boxes below. So far so good. But when I clicked on Remove, they disappeared and were replaced by the same Tracking Cookie with + sign. I repeated the above steps (more than once), but we seem to be in a never-ending loop.

My experience on dialup was sad. I was the very last on the telephone line, way out in the sticks, and on good days I downloaded at 4kb/sec dropping to a whopping 2kb in busy times. Seriously consider what can go wrong. The computer as a whole can handle huge amounts of data so it is not at risk. The modem will hopefully act at maximum capacity which is a fraction of the computer's capacity. There is no problem - not the way I see it anyway. Time to enjoy your new confuser On various forums you can see threads on internet speed and people wanting confirmation that they had good downloads. I have always understood the internet is very fluid, your information can pass through numerous servers en route and you have no control over that. So if you hit 3 busy servers on a 5 server hop you cannot expect the best speed. Some web sites are always slow if you visit often you can see that happens.

Hi Jerry, Had similar problems with Adaware 2007. The previous Adaware download procedure was better. Also, when scanning a few times, about half way through, Adaware encountered a problem and had to shut down. Superantispyware appears to be a great program and very popular across the geek forums also. Just use link below to download being sure to get the free version and install. Look for updates immediately. So far I have found nothing in this program to cause anyone any concern.

Yes just use the Add/Remove feature to get rid of AdAware. The old AdAware was great, the new one seems to use more resources

I haven't supported the use of AdAware for some time now. I found the free versions to be "lite" and the appearing competitors applications more dedicated.

After uninstalling a search for orphan files using the word AdAware would be in order.

there you go excellent replies to your questions.
I use superantispyware my self and like it very much. It is very simple to install and very simple to use, straightforward.
Once installed you want to hit the update button immediately so it can update then you hit the full scan button making sure that your C drive is selected as where to scan. That is it, once the scan is done follow the guide and buttons to let it clean what it finds.
You want to remember to open it and hit update and full scan about once a week, this free edition is manual.
