Spybot tried to automatically upgrade my S&D last night and I denied it. My personal protocol is never to overwrite an application unless the manufacturer mandates it.

Since I am snowed in this morning and couldn't go to work, we received a foot of snow over the night, I decided to delete the prior S&D version and I did a download and fresh install of the S&D v1.5.2. I checked and there is only one entry in the Add/Remove.

My recommendation is you remove both listed applications and then do a START>Search for remaining Spybot enties. I found the Start Menu and Desktop icons remained as well as the shell Program folder with two minor files. I ran CCleaner to check the registry and located one orphan entry.

After installing complete an update and you should be ready to go.

So you know, I do not use the Tea Timer or Innoculate features. No particular reason, just personal choice. I guess it might be as I am pretty vigilant on maintenace and scans so I just don't want an abundance of application utilities running or "protecting" me.

Finally, if anyone was having trouble with long delays after activating S&D this version has corrected the concern. I personally had this trouble on my Vista system.

I don't think that version came out until 01-29-2008

Thirdfrt, the exact thing happened to me this morning... And I am at a lost at what to do also... I do not use CCleaner and I really don't want to install it because I KNOW, if I use it, I WILL deleted something I'm not supposed to... lol

BTW, mine says the new one was last used on 6/5/2004.

I suppose I should Remove both versions and install the new one but, with the state my mind has been in for the last 9 months, I'm afraid to do more with the computer than just turn it on and off... Guess it's a trip to the shop for me...

But, can anyone tell me if I should turn off the Resident Protection???

P. S. Is the Inoculate feature the same as the Immunize?. I've always used that...

Spybot Search and Destroy
'Program' Update screwed up my Vista. I'm still cleaning bits and pieces.

It has somekind of serious boo boo with the install. And - Conflicts with one of the main window vista files ;) Imagine they'll fix it, eventually.

I had a strange thing pop up on me from Spybot when I went into one of my online mail. I could either allow it or deny it. I clicked deny and still was able to get into my mail.

URL http://ad.yieldmanager .com/st? ad_ type=ifran TagASaurus. Then it has Allow or Deny

Is this something new that Spybot has put in? I never had this on the older version.

I am quite sure they will fix your repoerted concern as Safer Networking Limited has historically been very responsible in fixing bugs. Howevr, there timeliness can cause some frustration.

SNL knew about the slow starting as I referred to earlier. In fact, on their homepage where they announce v1.5.2 they apologize for it. It just took them quite a while to resolve the concern.

Please rethink your position on CCleaner. It's fast and user friendly. Just use it with its default settings. The only people I hear having concerns are those who tinker with the original configuration. It is quite similar to the old Win 98 compatible CleanUp. If you do use the registry feature, it offers an options of saving anything a user delets.

Thirdfrt, I think that's the Resident Protection I mentioned and I think it stopped a Pop-Up tracking cookie for you... Guess I'll leave it on... lol

Thanks for the advice DA but I'm dealing with so much 'life' stuff right now and I just can't handle any new stuff...

Uninstall both versions and do a regisry clean you may have a pseudo program that will drop spyware on your pc so best to get rid of all of it. here is a good FREE registry cleaner.

no way and I never ever use registry cleaners and do not recommend them ever to someone who does not know much about how to use programs.

That is strange because the link leads to download.com so why does longtooth show up here promoting it? He can have no financial interest there surely.

The program appears to be a valid and well thought of tool as almost 2 million people have downloaded from download.com and 900,000 from Majorgeeks. Both those site I fully trust.

I didn't click on the link and maybe I'm unduly suspicious. I trust both sites too and often recommend major geeks to people who ask me because if you click on a freeware link from their site it takes you directly to the free version which is nice for those who sometimes get the paid version by mistake.

I trust Major Geeks completely however I have in the past known a few that got some bad downloads from download.com however they have much improved on their site and checking what is there for download now. For a while it had got pretty bad but they have worked to get it cleaned up.

Could be he was legit just the topic from so far back is what caught me by surprise. And again registry cleaners are not something to throw out to a novice in my opinion, heck I don't even use them.

Anyone wonder why "longtooth" hasn't responded to all the concerns? The snow part threw me for a minute to, but caused me to read on to see why the thread was resurrected.

We're already to Spybot 1.6, and this version is far more visible, not sure what the main improvements are.
