Power Saver

Can anyone tell me why my Toshiba power saver settings will not stay set. I have set it to long life or normal with never turn off monitor, hard disks and system standby. Apply and ok.

Every time I shut down and boot up it goes back to full power and to these settings> Monitor is set at 45 min, hard disks 30min, system standby 30min and the box is checked.

Sounds like windows settings are over-riding Toshiba Power Savers.
I'd probably go to toshiba and look up my models power saver control & download and reinstall it, maybe after looking into the bios set up first.

My Toshiba may be different from yours but here in control panel there is the Toshiba HWSetup which does do some bios settings and one of the items is hardware control by Device or by Opperating System.

Why not let it turn off monitor and hard drive ? Mine's set 15 minutes on ac & 2 minutes on battery.

From the desktop> properties> Power schemes is set to Toshiba power saver. Settings for Toshiba power saver power schemes - all never. I have been dealing with random system setup bios screen at bootup. Hard Disk mode> Enhanced IDE (normal).
Toshiba HWSetup> General> Bios> Only options are Default and About.
I have read/told to set it up that way. Reason for never for the hard disk is it may not come back on.

Not necessarily shaxhome, some monitors can get stuck in displaying that mode and not display the video like the desktop. Dell has a history of that and so does LG. Your best option as has been said is to try another monitor first. If changing the monitor does not produce results, then it's time to look at the video card driver or on board video driver. The VGA connector on the back of the computer is usually the blue connector 15 pins, the DVI cable is usually a white connector on the back of the computer. Snidely, Me??? Think what you may as I cannot speak to it. On this thread no one has brought up the concept of work environment so that perspective was not addressed. My home system is on 24/7. It has a collage of pictures of my grandchildren as a screen saver for my pleasure. For no other reason. No type of power management is used. In the past, the consensus of members here was they only use power management in the hopes of protecting the system to make it last longer. During my entire attendance at work my system is engaged even when not attended. It is the secured database portals which time me out after inactivity unless I do it manually. I have never seen anyone leave a laptop unattended in public. My recollection is they are actively being used, directly monitored, or shut down and stored. In any of these cases power management is not necessary. Finally, there are only two schools of thought that are certain for all; death and that politicians waste taxpayer money. Bought my first PC in 1996, I've never used a screen saver and have not had any problems. I turn it off at night when I shut off my PC. I asked the guys at Circuit city if they turn their monitors off at night and they said no and had two monitors with "something" on the screen, but it only shows when the monitors were off. He said they were old and that it was not necessary on the newer monitors. Everyonce in awhile I turn it on to show my photos, but haven't found a way to choose which photos to use. It uses all photos on my PC even documents with photos. LOL

I think I like my W8.1 desktop more then my W7 laptop! When I bought my desktop I asked that the upgrade to 8.1 be installed and login screen be eliminated. (I hate having to login when I start my computer!!) The only thing I still have a problem with is finding the controls on the right of the screen to shut down the computer......I really want the Start button back!!!! Besides that there are so many things to like about W8.1 and the convenience of having so many controls at the top of the folders. I have my "Desk Top" with my background choice and what icons I want. I must admit I'm still learning and finding new short cuts all the time. I'm a senior so I guess you can teach an "Old Dog" some new tricks :o)

I dunno, but rather than using the power saver from the desktop properties, have you looked at and tried the one in control panel ? On my laptop the one in control panel is quite different from its desktop control.

Here in control panel the Toshiba HWare control has a tab for Devices... which is set to all Devices, has optionally - setup by OS (opperating system), which is probably what I would not want, as then somethings do get goofy.

A mouse wiggle, key press, or just bumping the computer wakes it up after it blanks screen and spins down the hard drive here with no problem.

Yep, control panel options same as icon on the tasktray. I did play with set up options. Rebooted and it stayed set> for now.

No, device tap in Toshiba HWare. Only tabs are boot priority, keybroad, usb, lan, general, password & display.

No wakie with with touch pad, bump or keys stroke.

I don't want it to go into standby with the orange flashing light on the power button> Stopping over use of the power button to keep it turned on.

Standby life is only 165 hours. Care to share any more of your favorite setting?
