What.. you don't like to save power ?

Did the computer work ok ?

I'm using win8.. I just installed it... one of its updates was for power savings. Maybe you got it too and it reconfigured your 'Power Options' in control panel.

Guess I said it wrong, what I ment was that when I turned the CPU on , I have a black screen. The montor screen says it is in power save, and will not wake up so I can use the CPU. Do I most likely need a new monitor? Or a new CPU ? Or is there a way to wake up the screen?

Several shots in the dark:

Do you have buttons located on your monitor that you might have accidentally hit?

Did you try pressing the monitor's On/Off button?

Have you tried shutting down your system and then unplugging your monitor from the wall? If not, do so. Wait a couple of minutes then plug the monitor back in, and boot up the system. If you see "nothing" push the monitor's On/Off button.

DA, I have now tried all of the above, so guess new thing you are goining to say is it's time to go shopping for a new monitor.

See if you can start the computer in safe mode. It may be worth a try. Turn the computer on and tap the F8 key repeatedly and see if you get the advanced boot options. If so try to start in safe mode and let us know if it worked.

Did not work. The CPU is working (I think) cause I see the little light flashing when it is thinking. Mary

before I bought anything I would hook up another monitor to make sure that it is the monitor, don't think you need a new monitor. borrow a monitor if you need to and test it.

Tell us what windows version, brand and model of monitor and pc so we can help troubleshoot.

I am using windows xp I think. The monitor is an LG EW 224, CPU is a Compaq Presario.

Hold the power button on the front of the tower in for at least 4 seconds. This will shut the computer down, wait just a few seconds and start it again. What happens now?

Any chance the monitor cable has came loose on either the back of the computer(CPU) or the monitor?

Owbst did that, still monitor still says power saver mode.
chuggerguy, checked that, even removed and reinstalled it . Same thing.
Do have a cat, but she is 22years old and about 20 lb. she does not climb or can she get to any of the cords, she's to big.

did you try another monitor? did you try a totally different cable could be bad cable, could also be a power supply going bad. Have you opened the case and cleaned out the dust bunnies inside, heat build up can cause all kinds of problems. check for loose cables, check the video card to make sure it is set good.

If your monitor and pc take both dvi and vga cables try the one that you are not currently using. If using dvi disconnect it and try using a vga etc.

Thank you for the link. I will try another monitor in am, when DD brings me one. It was time to dust, but it was not bad. Don't know what dvi and VGA cables at, but I know there is a spot for a different bigger cable end on the tower,so I will get one and try it. Thanks. Mary

If the monitor says it's in sleep mode, it must be working to display that message, no?

Not necessarily shaxhome, some monitors can get stuck in displaying that mode and not display the video like the desktop. Dell has a history of that and so does LG. Your best option as has been said is to try another monitor first. If changing the monitor does not produce results, then it's time to look at the video card driver or on board video driver.

The VGA connector on the back of the computer is usually the blue connector 15 pins, the DVI cable is usually a white connector on the back of the computer.
