I had the great fortune of being assigned to Deb ("Momto4kids"). Thank You Ann!

I came home late last night to a wonderful aroma wafting from my kitchen. On the island, Cass had retrieved and set on the island the most wonderfully-scented box I've ever received in the mail! :) Of course, I couldn't wait to delve right in -

Upon opening the box, I discovered a trio of beautifully wrapped {{gwi:1467237}}. {{gwi:1467238}}, I was even more intrigued!

The cookbook, "400 Best-Ever Soups", has to be one of the most beautiful cookbooks I now own! There are so many recipes I can't wait to try. Each recipe has a beautiful photograph of the finished dish, and several of the recipes also contain how-to/step-by-step photos, as well. I can easily see this becoming my new favorite cookbook!

The round tin contains Cooked Virginia Peanuts. These are the {{gwi:1467239}} I've ever had! They're soooo good. What a treat!

The pretty little cone shaped items were the aroma 'culprits'! Deb explained in her note that they were shoe sachets. She filled them with 'Pumpkin Patch' potpourri and said to store them in my out-of-season shoes. That way, come next season, my shoes will be wonderfully scented! Deb, you are so clever!!

rust is a nightmare here with this rose - as soon as we get a little autumn rain (and we usually get plenty). Overall, rust is not usually much of an issue for me - I have only ever had one rose which was susceptible (although I have not got experience with hundreds of them like some of you) and, as it was a beloved Madame Gregoire Staechelin, I was prepared to pick and burn every leaf with a trace of rust but I definately could not manage to do it for more than one rose plant. It looks grim in a couple of the college gardens so I would give it a pass.

Refers to antibacterial soaps and chemicals that supposedly sanitize our hands but in reality kill the good along with the bad, thus leaving us naked without our little familiars or personal good bacteria working for us to combat the bad bacteria. While I appreciate the "Madison Avenue" issues, I'm not quite ready to return to the days when infant/child mortality due to amoebic dysentery, cholera, rheumatic fever, measles, and so on and so on was more than TWENTY TIMES what it is today. In Pennsylvania in 1912, the infant mortality rate (deaths per thousand) was 150. In 2012 it was 8. Both figures - 1912 and 2012 - include ALL deaths, not just those bacteria-borne ones. Nonetheless, "the good ol' days" weren't, and for the most part, are a fantasy no less "fabricated" by a DIFFERENT "Madison Avenue" than the fabrications of the chemo/pharmo shills. Sadly, in a world with such extraordinary access to information, it is harder to find THE TRUTH than it may ever have been in the history of human kind. We must all SEEK, and FIND, our own way in this world full of charlatans and snake-oil salesmen. Precisely why I do not share the infatuation with "all things worm", that some do. The TRUTH I find has been something less than "magic". And while I profoundly appreciate fermented food and drink - with all it's "good" little microbes - I have no illusion that the "good" ones will "win out" over the "bad" ones. They haven't throughout history, I don't know why they should now. What "wins" is a strong immune system, and when that fails, "you" die, regardless of whether you use "anti-microbial" soap or not. fallingwaters; first of all, know that your you and your dh, and his hea lth care prov iders are in my prayers. Your priorities are in the right place, although I know there is some disappointment after getting so much in place for the renovation. I, too, put off my kitchen for a year. My MIL fractured her hip and was having repeated complications, my husbands workload increased at work and by being the primary healthcare surrogate for his mom. I sensed that just having the stress of ripping out the kitchen -- but also of not HAVING a functional kitchen, was a bit more than our family could deal with. My kitchen is a place of respite, even if in it's current state it isn't perfect. My experience has been like needssometips and jreuter. I saved up some more $$. I'm not putting that extra into the kitchen, but it is giving us a bit more of a cushion. 2. I've gotten just about every wee decision made, down to the gar bage di sposal, and what I'm lining the drawers with. Except for the darn faucet. Still trying to figure it out. In the next few months as you go thru this with your husband, there will likely be times when you feel out of control. Looking at pulls and such and making a few decisions unrelated to the health aspects may help you get a feeling of control back. And in the middle of the night, when you can't sleep, no doubt someone has posted a tittilating post (I know that isn't spelled right) that may take your mind off the stressors for a few minutes.

jakkom, here a Delmonico is an old fashioned term, seldom used, and meant to denote a rib-eye steak. New York is invariably a strip steak. I've edited this to add this, I was just looking up a specialty market in Traverse City and found the "Delmonico Roast", also known as boneless prime rib! http://www.burrittsmarket.com/news/holidaymeatdepartmentmenu.html Also, according to Wikipedia: " Delmonico's steak may now, in the 21st century, refer to other cuts, prepared differently in different parts of the USA. Cool idea, Deb. I think I'd be tucking them in more places than my shoes. We love soups...the cookbook says 'from all over the world'...I bet there's some good recipes in there. Enjoy, Lori.

What a gorgeous fall wrapping job Lori!

Over 400 soup recipes, wow, can't go wrong with that cookbook! And I too have a son that would get lots of use from your shoe sachets. Virginia peanuts, what could be more regional. Glad you're enjoying the goodies Deb!

I'm glad you received your package intact! I love those Virginia peanuts. I thought that cookbook looked great. I can't believe I didn't pick one up for me. I wrapped up your swap package such a long time ago, it seems, that I forgot the name of the cookbook. Now, I can go to B&N and get one of those cookbooks for me. I do hope you like Pumpkin Spice! Sherry...yes, I'm embarrassed to say I did make those sachets. I made some a couple of years ago. My Tretorns loved them! I was completely nervous making these for Lori!

How smart, I really like the shoe sachets.

Virginia peanuts, they have got to be good. I would like that cookbook, it is beginning to get soup weather here.

A treat for all your senses! Yummy, those peanuts look terrif. I would be popping those down pretty fast. And isn't this the soup season?? Perfect. I love the idea of shoe sachets, although I keep saying soo shasays, instead.

I have a couple of teenage boys that could certainly use some of those sachets - great idea - and especially nice that you made them yourself Deb!

The show sachets are such a neat idea, I've never seen anyhting likethat before. Great idea!

I was lucky enough to have Deb last swap and was the lucky recipient of some of those Virginia peanuts. No idea what they taste like Clive devoured them all before I even had a chance at one!

Shoe sachets? Oh yeah, the girls could have used some of THOSE while they were still running track and playing basketball. LOL

I love soup this time of year, so the cookbook just sounds amazing. I'm looking forward to hearing about some of those recipes.

And, BTW, peanuts are very healthy for you, so munch away.

I've had those peanuts often - excellent!

Do you think shoe sachets would keep a certain nosy poodle out of my shoes? They are really a neat idea and wonderful that they were made by Deb herself.

Oh yummy-- fresh peanuts-- and nothing better than a cookbook full of new soups to try, there's something so comforting in homemade soup !

Geez, I lived next to Virginia for 20 years and never bought those peanuts. Kicking myself ;)

Beautiful wrapping job Deb! That soup cookbooks sounds wonderful with the weather getting downright cold here.

I used to wear Tretorns to play tennis when I lived in San Francisco, but I never had shoe sachets for them! I bought Tretorns because they were all white, and I bought Tretorn tennis balls because back then they were also white. Shoe sachets sound like a really good idea!

I love soup, but it's far from soup weather here, as it was in the 90s in L.A. today. I will still look forward to seeing more soup recipes in the future, however.

I love the Fall themes here! Very cool package.

I have had Virginia peanuts and they're the best. Never had 'em cooked though. DH and I were in Williamsburg a few years ago and they had a peanut shop with doors on both sides. DH kept going in one door, grabbing free samples, and going out the other door. They never caught on (or were at least gracious enough not to confront the old geezer!).

You will enjoy everything, no doubt! Have fun!

I want a new and unique soup recipe please....with 400 to pick from I'm thinking you can help me out Lori. : ) Pass the peanuts too please! A super box for a special lady from a special lady! My yard shoes and boots could use the fresheners for sure....LOL!
