Right click my computer how much memory is being reported there.

I would do a defrag also.

That's right click my computer choose properties and look for ram amount being reported.

I am not too experienced with the computer workings.
How would I find the type of video card I have installed.
When I press propertys in My Computer and right click, get the following tabs

Auto Updates

Computer Name

But I haven't a clue where I look to find out what sort of a video card I have installed, that is if i do indeed do have one installed.

If you install Belarc Advisor and run it you will see everything about your computer. All hardware will be listed along with all software and serial numbers. A handy little tool.

If you computer is a brand name I suspect you have the video built into the motherboard. That is why you show 1.87 gigs of RAM, you really have 2 gigs but the rest is probably used by the video

Thanks I did not realize 2 threads were going on Totally confusing now, I just want to see if it's a desk top so a video card could be added to take some stress off if games are being played it would help.

is the computer giving any warnings to you? is it saying for example low on virtual memory? What warnings if any are you getting?

Can you go to Start> control panel> administrative tools> event viewer, there you will see 3 selections you can click on each and view the logs, you want to look for any red flags, possibly yellow but definitely red ones, select that line and double click on it to get the information on that event, on each there will be an event number code and info telling you what is causing the event. If you find any those would be helpful.

On belarc did it show that your full amount of ram is actually showing? Sometimes RAM can go bad.
But for playing some of those heavy graphics games like Second Life it will definitely tax a machine even with 2 Gig.
I would also check what all is starting at start up that you could adjust.

You have given me lots of tips to look into, thanks for that.
Firstly when I look in events, systems have quite a number of yellow and red flags, the reds are re network lease not being allowed which is fine as I don't network anyway. Yellow are Warnings with date time for userenv, don't have a clue !
Applications have a few red and yellow flags unrelated to graphics.
Re start ups, there are 50 running on startup, that seems a lot?

there are a number of various programs you can get that will help you figure out exactly what all is starting up in msconfig because some of that stuff you really have no clue what it may belong to. One I like which does multiple tasks and is free is REVO uninstaller, one of the many features of REVO is a startup manager, it tells you exactly what they are in relation to the actual programs on the pc and you can enable them and disable them right from REVO rather than go through msconfig. REVO also does many other tasks including uninstalling, here is the link to it you can read up and see if you might want to try it. They have excellent tutorials on each aspect if you just click on each then on the more info or user info.
