BK - you are just flat out wrong wrong here. SZ makes their own fridges in their own factories, and about the only thing that is of Whirlpool design is the $50 ice maker unit that 60+% of the industry uses ! They fabricate their own steel and plastic cases, source their own, copper and glass, spray their own insulation , designed their own ethelyene filter, and on and on. Whirlpool wasn't even in the fridge business until a decade after SZ was producing theirs , and the only reason Whirlpool got in it was because of a merger. and, we all know about mergers. SZ has and these units in real homes for twelve plus months already , so they kinda know what is flawed with them. These also aren't just some half baked platform off the drawing board like your Maytag example. Further , Maytag ceases to exist because they were boneheads. Their Neptune debacle blew a hole in the ship, and the Amana acquisition enlarged it. And guess who picked up the pieces folks? Yep, BK's white knight and general do gooder, Whirlpool. Happy, I know it's a tough decision for you right now with this model change especially since they are different sizes. I would go for he new design, simply because that 7xx platform is almost twenty years old now and the 36" one is not the best size anyway. Have you considered one of the 36" ers from one of the Miele, Gaggenau, Thermador cousins? They are all top quality and roughly the same price as that 736. Available now and first of the year no changes, proven platform with nice features, and they integrate very smoothly.

Refrigerators must be a personal thing! When I was looking (at sxs and columns), I really disliked the SZ..... the lighting, the drawers, almost everything. I did like the Thermador and I did like the Miele. My ideal was a Thermador fridge and a Miele freezer because of a combination of price and interior. In the end I decided on the Miele because I much preferred the freezer, the lighting and the door configuration of the Miele. It probably also helped that Miele offered a 10 year bumper to bumper warranty offer when I ordered. :)

This "May" be a little late! I would stay away from GE Appliances due to: General Electric has sold its appliance business to Haier for $5.4 billion, a deal that will greatly expand the Chinese firm's footprint in the U.S. It is very likely that there will be transitional problems, possible inventory problems etc etc. I would certainly take the time to read reviews of GE appliances bought after about June of 2016. We too are debating whether to replace our Jenn-Air fridge with a Sub-Zero. The Jenn-Air had been trouble free, (No service calls) for 10 years. The icemaker did die after about 5 years but was widely available on-line, cheap ($135) and easily replaced by me, (Plug in). Unfortunately year 11 for the fridge has NOT been good, No compressor problems or expensive parts, but several calls for wild temp swings in Freezer and now a 2nd call for frost in freezer, and since the last "frost repair" we had to remove the top cover over the fridge to keep it from shutting down. Anyway, repair guy coming today, We giving him one last chance, replace anything that looks like it is or could be a problem, it breaks again it gets replaced by an SZ. We hate to replace it because of the fridge's wood panels, keeping it clean has been a "Non Issue" for 11 years now, WE hate to go back to Stainless Steel and the "Joy" of keeping that spotless!!! Why SZ you say? Simple Answer SERVICE!!!!! SZ has their own Service Dept. Jenn-Air does NOT have their own service nor does Whirlpool who Owns Jenn-Air, Kitchenaid, Maytag and who knows what else? So even though I searched extensively for the best service dept for my Jenn-Air Fridge, (Yelp Reviews, Yellow Pages Reviews, etc etc, and I probably found about the best there is as far as Jenn-air Service goes! Buttttt, Here is the way the company I picked, services Jenn-Air appliances. First You call them, it can take up to a week to get a return call, by the guy that is going to do the actual service. You describe "IN DETAIL" what the problem is. Still He comes out several days later and has a "look see". He then orders the parts, which usually takes another week, then returns with the parts and installs them. All this time the fridge is malfunctioning!!! Fortunately, being a "Techie" (Electronic Engineer), I've been able to keep the fridge running well enough to preserve the food. I removed the cover over the electronics to keep them cool, manually defrosted the freezer, removed a shield in the freezer so ice could not build up on it and block evaporator fan, turn power on/off many times, etc etc. Anyway tired of it , so I'm hoping , first of all The SZs does not break, 2nd, if it does , service will be prompt and parts needed replace on the FIRST SERVICE CALL, not the 3rd call or so !!! I have a Bosch dual fuel range (slide in) that is about 1" away from the wall/backsplash. I have never noticed it sticking out until I read this and then went to look, lol. It does, but if I've never noticed it, it doesn't bother me. The range itself is about 2 1/2" out from the base cabinetry. But I know what you mean if you want the 24" deep Thermador look. Personally, I would invest in an integrated refrigerator, using money saved from the Thermador and/or GE. The refrigerator is a much larger appliance and it's "sticking out" is more obvious than the counter height range. ("Counter depth" refrigerators also stick out; only fully integrated are flush.) I have 18" between the range and the next full height bank of cabinetry which includes a flush Thermador microwave/convection oven. The cabinetry sticks out 1" from the countertop and 2" from the 18" base cabinet farther than it should, a custom construction error I don't want to talk about. But that would be about the same as the space between your refrigerator and range if both "stick out." That 18" is good enough for my small Keurig and that's about it. It also has wall cabinetry above it because I used a hidden Zephry Pisa undercabinet range hood, so I don't have the "open" look you'll get from your range hood. That 18" of usable space is the same, however. We don't cook much at all (I hate it). I've had a Thermador dual fuel range and now this Bosch. Years ago, when I did have to cook, I had GE Monogram wall ovens and glass cooktop. Other than much preferring the gas, I can't think of major differences between all of them, or being unhappy with any of them.
