Thermador or Sub-Zero Fridge/Freezer?
Comments (22)I had a pair of Thermador Columns installed in December (30" Fridge, 30" Freezer). I love them. I had a hard time deciding between the above set vs. 27" pair from SubZero. So far, everything has worked perfectly and I'm very happy with my decision. My final deciding points were: For about 20% less money I could get 25% more storage. (The 27" SubZeros were about 25% more money compared to the 30"), and I had room for either. I LOVED the way the doors on the Thermadors swung fully to the outside of the fridge, rather than staying within the front of the fridge. Opening is so much wider feeling. As for now living with it, here are some thoughts on concerns others have brought up: I'm 5/2" and have no complaints about the top shelves. They are high, but I prefer that to stooping over for lower stuff. And the drawers are great! And I like the shallow shelves, with deeper door stuff because no more lost stuff in the back of the fridge. The doors hold ALL the condiment type stuff and the rest is wide open for large jugs of milk, juice, and everything else! One of the comments I get most when people look inside is: WOW, you can see EVERYTHING at a glance! It all seems to be at eye level and just item or two deep. No more hidden leftovers & stuff. The shelves are still deep enough to hold two gallons of milk, one in front of the other, as well as my big huge serving platter, cookie sheets, and pizza boxes. So no need for the shelves to be any deeper for me. I love the ice bucket location. Open the door and it's right at waist/chest level. Perfect. As I said before - no regrets so far!...See MoreMonogram vs. Kitchenaid 48' SxS Refig. vs. Sub-Zero 695
Comments (4)I cant comment as to the monogram, but we have had the KA in for 3 months and have no major complaints. Its been fairly quiet. The water on the door comes out through a filter and it tastes good enough, that I have considered getting rid of the bottled water delivery. We dont use tons of ice, but the icemaker capacity is very large compared to my last kenmore. I paid about 5500 and couldn't justify spending 7000-12000 on the sz even though the one w/the glass door looks amazing. As to the lights looking cheap, I dont know what the lights should look like, but throw a few items into the fridge and I dont think you'll notice at all. My only complaint was on the door shelves for the fridge side. The fronts come up fairly high and items dont come out as easily as I would like, but I have gotten used to it. Good luck....See Moresub-zero vs GE monogram reliability?
Comments (1)I think comparing a product from 9 years ago in any product is a streatch. If you believe that Sub has ignored it's past and has not changed in the last 9 years then take your chances on GE. I looked at it in the other way. Fridges is Subs core and main business. They have added some basic changes to the fridges. I have open the 632 and the new BI48 and picked the BI48. I looked a number of fridges including the GE and the Miele versions. Make sure you go and look, open, poke, measure the sizes inside. Take some pictures of each and themn imagine how it will all work. I went for the 48 due to space and sizing. We do not plan to have any other freezer space. Good luck/hunting...See MoreMiele Refridgerators vs Sub Zero
Comments (31)Since Patricia isn’t an owner, I’ll step up. I’ve got a fridge and freezer, ≈20 year old 601s. Limping along, I’ll skip the little issues (e.g. I’ve currently got a freezer full of freezer burned food, hopefully another defrost terminator will do the trick without calling service) but will say that service wants to rebuild both with new sealed units for $1800 a piece. Now if you consider replacement cost (if there actually were a replacement for the space) that actually sounds reasonable. But it makes me wonder if THIS is why they ”last forever.” I’ve heard the newer ones do all sorts of wonderful stuff, but mine are just cold boxes. When they work....See Moresfmom88
