Any one cook on a pro style range?
Comments (15)Katie: I know it's been a bit since you asked about Aga Legacy, but I feel I must post this for anyone else who comes along. We bought a Legacy 4 yrs ago and have hated it ever since. Looks great, that's all. 1st, the range burners don't heat evenly- when we have a saute pan on, the rt side of the pan cooks hotter, we've tried adjusting the feet etc, but to no avail. Also, since it has 2 separate ovens and a separate broiler you would've thought we would have realized that meant there would be no full size oven. Can't fit a standard baking sheet, let alone a turkey in any of them. The larger oven also doesn't heat evenly. A sheet of cookies comes out wonky. I have to stand by and turn the sheet every 3-4 mins. to make sure all the cookies are the same color. Also the kickplate falls off constantly even tho we attached a super strong magnetic to it. The range top is very hard to keep clean. The only thing we like about this stove are it's looks and the separate broiler, which by the way works great. We are moving in 2 weeks and I can't wait to get a new stove for our new place; the Aga is conveying. Comments (7)My cabinets are 24" deep. With a 3/4" overhang, my counters are almost 25" deep. The front edge of the top of my Wolf DF projects 28" from the wall. Standing a bit "proud" of the cabinets is a good look for a pro-style range, in my opinion. Comments (9)Weissman, actually I guess it is the bottom of the U - when I said top, I was thinking of an upside-down U as it's at the top of my kitchen. Does that make sense? You walk into the kitchen and the galley is on the right with the range at the top of the upside-down U shape. I'm one of those spatially-challenged left-handers! Thanks for all of the input. We also have to find a range hood that will work well and fit in the existing space above the range. We will be removing an OTR MW and installing a vent hood - more complications and space/ducting limitations. We are trying to hurry to finish all of this by the end of July when my cooking buddy from New Orleans comes for a week - he and I always have a seafood cookoff while they are here....See Morepro-style range island trim design prob--please, help!
Comments (11)Thank you all for responding. Arc1017, I think your kitchen is beautiful and I've referred to it many times before, actually. Thank you for your honest assessment of the situation! Edlakin, I called around to various dealers in my area (metro Washington DC) asking about using another manufacturer's island trim, and was basically told (not very politely either) that messing with the island trim would invalidate my warranties...they sounded mostly annoyed with me and just wanted to finish the new sale, but I'm just a bit of a wuss and not much of a DIYer in these kinds of situations (I actually work in a creative field and I'll improvise in design, clothes, food...but BTUs and heat transfer are just out of my league!) so I caved. Bottom line, I'm getting full credit on the Thermador and will be getting a Viking 36" instead. Alku, our dealer doesn't have Bluestar so it wasn't an option as far as the exchange. BUT It turned out to be less of a price difference than I thought because the Viking island trim costs a lot less, but still more than I'd budgeted for. GRrr. I've kept to my budget so faithfully on this project and was really looking forward to my new Pro Harmony. Thanks all for indulging my crazy question!...See Moresombreuil_mongrel
