WANTED: My Swap Box is Headed Due North!

Yes, it was dropped off this morning and off it goes up the East Coast! Now, let me just say that pretty much EVERYONE is due north of me, so good luck trying to figure who it is:-) I can't wait for my partner to receive his/her box, I hope he/she enjoys it as much as I enjoyed my "Evil Box From the West". I'm glad I finally participated in this swap, who knew it could be so much fun???

My first swap too, and I bought so many things, then changed my mind, so I will be returning them. I have too many favorite things...

I remember posting in a previous swap that a swap box couldn't be for me because it was headed north! But it was, it came from Shaun in Florida! So, I'll not rule it out, Donna!

lol I have a little room upstairs where I keep all my seed stuff. After I mailed out the last package last year, I just closed the door and did not go back in there to deal with the mess for weeks! Downstairs there are too many cats, and it takes only one to make a complete disaster of a seed box. This year I am going to take photos of the seed sorting and result mess! I am all too familiar with clutter. So acquainted, in fact, that I think most of it has become permanent features to the house. We have so much stuff now, we are having to move & build a bigger house. All of this "clutter" is actually things that we need & use regularly. We are just running out of spaces to put things. My husband & I each have our own hobbies that require a room all to ourselves to store everything. My plants have taken over the only usable guest bedroom, our closest shelves are on the verge of falling off the walls, his computer room can barely contain what he has in there, my art room you have to be an expert rock climber to get around in. I have always been one of those people who has the compulsion to hide things. I have things stuffed away in all cabinets through out the house, on top of the cabinets & refrigerator, stuff is under the beds, in drawers with clothes-if it can fit in a spot, I will squirrel it away. It helps keep my house looking nice & tidy.

Mabel, when I try those huckleberries, I will report on the taste. I already know that I am going to like them, I am a fruity kind of person.:) Cathy, I have a very small and sharp knife that I use for peeling the loquats, I saw the knife recommended in one of those Cooking Light magazines. It can also chop herbs very fine. One day's picking is a lot of fruit, tomorrow I will be making an almond crust loquat pie. Later in the season I will be making jam and maybe chutney. And I hope to share the fruit with my friends also... Here is the recipe that I used. Loquat Crisp Fruit Mixture: 6 cups loquats, seeded, peeled and cut in quarters 1/2 cup granulated sugar 2 TB all-purpose flour 1 TB fresh lime juice 1 pinch salt Streusel (keep in fridge cold if making ahead): 1/4 light brown sugar 4 TB butter 1/8 tsp salt 1/2 cup flour 1 TB grated orange zest To make Fruit Mixture: In a stainless steel bowl, combine the loquats, sugar, flour, lime juice and salt, mixing well. Place the mixture in an oven-proof 2 qt. baking dish. To make Streusel: Using a food processor fitted with the metal blade, pulse together the light brown sugar, butter, salt, flour and orange zest. Pulse only until it is combined and looks like the texture of small pebbles. Preheat oven to 350. Cover the loquat mixture loosely with the streusel. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the fruit is bubbling and the top is golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve hot. Makes about 6 servings. Silvia

You know, it just dawned on me yesterday that Pat's popovers look far and away nicer than the ones pictured on the popover pan box. And I never thought to check Joy for a popover recipe...guess what I'll be making this weekend? I agree about the clean oven too, btw. If you've been bitten by the Fiesta bug (I feel like a drug pusher!) many stores like Macy's, Kohls, Boscovs & Dillards carry it so that you can see the colors in real life. I'm thinking that Peacock might be perfect with your dishes. Granjan- my husband did about three books and then the firm stopped calling him. I know that the freelance work was slowing down but it's been a few years. I know that he enjoyed it and would do it again in a heartbeat. Personally I thought that his indexes were great and I always half jokingly compliment him on Raising the Bar because I, too, would always complain about the indexes in cookbooks and how bad they were. The one in RtB is ideal! It's like he took all of my complaints to heart. So of course every time I have to look something up in the index I go "wow, this index is fantastic" but I really do mean it. Diana- the only thing that would make me happier than sending you the recipe would be sending you the popovers themselves but I'm afraid they'd be pretty stale by the time they got to you so the recipe it shall be. I'm so happy that my partner likes her stuff! And Pat kindly posted the recipe for the Maraschino cherries over in discussions. It's time for a new batch in our house as well. Nina

I am tracking it, and I think they said it would be delivered Saturday, or possibly Monday. Michelle, you really are in the middle of everything!!!! Brenda, you're in Texas, which means you're also west of me, right? AM, you're north, so's Kathleen! The possibilities are almost endless.......:-)

Just came back from the UPS store,,tried to get some inside info.. like am I on the list for a pkg from Fla!!! only kidding. Had to mail Ms Michelle her chicken!
Well, Carol got hers and so did Nina in NY. Lucy, it could be Lucy..or me...let it be me!

Kathleen, did you send Michelle a rubber chicken? And would you PLEASE find out if she's got some apple butter in that pantry of hers????

I did agonize a little over what to get my swap buddy. I was lucky to have some help from a forum angel, though:-) There are LOTS of stops on the way to New York, Ms. LAWNG ISLAND!!!! All will be revealed in time.....

Oh Donna my pantry is BUTTER HEAVEN!!

I have not only Apple Butter but Apple Maple Butter and Peach Butter and Rose Hip Butter and Plum Kissed Pear Butter and a very hot Good for a Cold Morning Butter. All made Summer of '07. I was a bit busy..LOL!

I will post a picture when I get my box from Kathleen! I am so excited to get my chicken!

Wow Michelle, you are another canning monster! If I'm ever in your neck of the woods, better lock up that pantry:-) Will you and Joe eat all of the butters you canned, eventually, or do you "gift" a lot of it at this time of year? When I see how lovely everything looks, and I'm sure it tastes divine, it's times like these that I really wish I could get into canning. Maybe I'll try it this year, I have Annie's apple butter recipe that is so good. I made it last spring, but cut down the recipe and froze what was leftover.

I also look forward to seeing your chicken from kathleen!

The chicken should be delivered today but UPS has problems in my area. Whenever there's a sub driver my packages end up at my neighbors which is 5 miles down the road!
