Thanks I give it another try on my W8.1 (this) laptop.

It came to mind this morning when my wife complained here Dell XP Desk Top was just churning on the request she sent in for Firfox. I tried a reboot and same, just stuck - Firfox was "embarrassed" and so was I. She had on old copy of ASC so I ran it. It discovered a number of "faults/problems" including some in the Registry. I had it clear them all and the Desk Top is running normal again.

I'd like to try it on my W8.1 as it has some problems I had after some discussion on this form was due to a faulty DSL modem. The telco tech said they ship me a new modem, a newer improved one, for about $15 shipping, they couldn't give me a drive in place to pick it up that day, a Friday. So I contact my calble tv guys and the turned on the internet access and I picked up a cable modem at Walmart and was back on the internet with up to 105 mb, compared to my 8 mb DSL. I have never seen anything close to 105, and mostly more around 10 mb - so I don't notice any real improvements in speed on my computer, but think Roku/Netflix on my HDTV and my laptop run better on the higher speed, no breaks to load the buffer.

I think Cable over states their speed more than does the dsl. My 8 mb DSL is closer to 5 mb.

I tried to install Advanced System Care Free and boy what a mess I have. The %&% installer tried to take over everything installing at least 4 or 5 other programs and trying to make me buy the ASC version. I think I finally uninstalled ASC but a Driver Update keeps taking over my browser home page, and both SnapDo and ConvertAd seem to be hanging up the Windows Uninstaller. I have tried to uninstall and it doesn't happen.

Any ideas? These last two mentioned programs were found by looking for "stuff" installed today and assuming they are related to the attempt to install ASC I recommend staying away for IOBITs and ASC.

Come to a forum and post a log file where I can help you better. I can't do logs here and I need to see a few log reports. It sounds like you do have a mess now. Without the proper log reports it all becomes a guessing game.

For now I'd run a Malwarebytes scan to get rid of what ever was installed. Then reconsider coming to the forum I have linked here and we can take a closer look at things before it gets more messy..

Start a topic in spyware forum and I'll give more instructions if you want to. Snapdo can be difficult to remove entirely. There may other things installed that you're unaware of.

zip516, I posted under "Software" and subject Advanced System Care and left a log from Super antivirus and now return to see if Super will remove the 250 threats it found. Log is before removal but after removal of one instance of SnapDo

I hadn't tried Advanced System Care, and being curious, mostly about the PUPs, tried it last night. This is just my personal experience. This says nothing about how compatible it is with Windows 8. I only have 2003 Server(XP-like) in a virtual environment to test with.

They try the usual tricks to get you to install additional crap. Nothing a custom install, a suspicious eye, and a sip of coffee between clicks won't catch:

When it finally looked safe to click "Install", I noticed the "Skip" button and wondered if that was all I would have had to do, but after a sip, decided not to second guess, and clicked "Install".

After letting it fix the problems, I saw no ill effects, no hijackers, no new/changed search engines, no change of homepage, no anything obvious.

Did fixing the problems(?) speed the machine up? I don't know, I don't use that machine enough to say for sure. It seems like maybe it did but I can't say for sure. Doesn't seem to have hurt anything though.

Thanks, that's the "trick"... I have always taken the "express" and I have often had to return my browsers to the my choice of home page But I Advanced System Care experience was my W8.1 machine got loaded with what I consider crap and a big slow up in operation.

I had earlier ran ASC on a XP Media machine and it seemed to help that machine active Firefox fast, it was extremely slow before. The ASC was already on that machine and all I did was update it, then run it. I do not know of any bad side-effects on the XP machine.
