How to Remove Programs on Desktop

I have a lot of programs on my desktop that I didn't download. I'm not sure how they got there. Anyway, when I try to put them in the Recycle Bin, I get a message that I have to go to the "Add or Remove Programs" to remove them. However, they're NOT listed on there. How do I get rid of them?

Some of them are: Easy Internet Signup, AOL Latino 3 Meses, Inc, Quicken 2006 New User, V Home, and others.

Look in your programs list, Start>programs see if there listed there put your mouse over them you may see the un-install feature, those things on the desk top are short cuts to the program let us know if that works.

Icons on the desktop can represents shortcuts OR programs.

It sounds like the programs blueheron listed probably came with the computer as "freebies." They let you sign up for trial offers, and the like.

To uninstall such programs, go to Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.

Scroll down the list for the program you want to delete, then Click on Uninstall and follow the directions.

Right loosing administrative rights to those (2) areas indicates a virus may still be present, even though the pop ups are gone this is common with certain virus what it does is changes the windows registry an places restrictions on these 2 items. Your best bet as suggested is to go to a spyware forum & post a hijack this log, in that log you will more then likely see the 2 (06) entries that confirm the restrictions---no need to reinstall the operating system for this.

These are the instructions we give here at the forum for malwarebyters copy them & save them to a folder if you want. Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. Click here Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application. Â Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. Â If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Â Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan. Â The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient. Â When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. Â Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. Â When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note) Â The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM. Â Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply. Extra Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediately.

D, Not to over promote or beat REVO to death I have a current example of its service. I just removed WinAmp Full with REVO in readiness to install a current version. WinAmp is a long time and reputable application so a user could assume it had a capable on-board uninstaller. As suggested above, I selected Advanced mode and then engaged REVO. After the on-board uninstaller finished REVO took over. It located 4300 orphaned registry entries, and 1400 orphaned files and folders. These are REVO's numbers not mine. no delete button on add and remove programs

IE 7 is your browser what we need is what windows version are you using like is it xp or vista? This is how you get to the add remove programs area. Start> control panel> add remove programs double click that to open the add remove programs area, wait while it completes the list, then you will see the list of all things on your pc, should you want to delete or remove an item then click on that item to highlight it, on the far right a button will appear that says change/remove or something similar that is the button you want to select to delete the item, it will pop up asking are you certain you want to delete this item if you are sure then click yes and it will begin the removal process. You DO have to be logged in on an administrator account to be able to do this task.

If no luck so far you might want to try this: Download and install CCleaner. Click on the 'tools' button and see if they are on the list CCleaner can uninstall.

I am going to go out on a limb here and predict you will have to manually delete them.

Write the applications down and do a Start>Search for each one. Any appearing entry which you are comfortable with as pertaining to the ones in question right click and select delete.

When you are done use CCleaner's Registry Tool to scan and fix any issues. (It creates a backup if you so desire.)

jean, I did that, as I said in my post, and couldn't find some of them, like blockbuster video.

damcoy, when I tried to search for them, the computer couldn't find them either. The Search option didn't list desktop programs, so I wasn't sure where to look. It listed, "Pictures, music, or video", "Documents," "All files and folders," and "Computers or People." None seemed to be the one for desktop. I searched "Documents" and "Files and Folders" and came up empty.

Look in all of C

Type in the search just as they appear on your Desktop,Easy Internet, AOL, Latino Quicken, V Home, and the others.

If shortcuts
you can right click it and choose Properties. It will show the path and you can even Find Target which will open the folder its in then poke its unwise or uninstall, if you're lucky.

i am stuck trying to remove avast free security from my laptop carn't find it in add/remove have tried to download removal tool but won't work as it says its protected have removed protection but still no joy i have also tried to open the file while in window safe mode but carn't get internet whilst in that mode i have also tried to remove it by using properties and target and have clicked on from all programmes but no uninstall available PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP
