More info. I just looked at this file on my desktop in task manager again. I was able to right click and click on Go To Process, this highlighted for me where that is coming from. The program is realevent.exe. I did a search of my computer for that file and there are two files on my computer's hard drive.

One is titled Realevent.exe-075FAD3E.pf. It seems to be in it's own folder titled Windows/Prefetch. It is 64 KB and is a PF File. According to this, it was created back in November of 2006. Huh? How the heck did this get here for that long?
The second one shows an icon that I recognize as one that is on the border of the message that keeps coming up on my desktop, followed by reaevent. It is in Program Files/Common Files/Real/Update_OB. It is 53 KB and is an application file and according to this it was created in 2003! Oh my gosh!

So, I can't believe that all this time, I was just closing it and never knew I could track where it was coming from on the computer through the task manager.

So now that I have found where it is, should I just delete both these files? Is there any way of knowing where this program came from and what it was programed to do? If they could put it on my hard drive then, what else could it have done?

Do you have Real Player on your computer? This file is associated with it. Do a search on Google, and you'll get lots of information. I don't use Real Player because I know that early on, it contained spyware. Don't know about newer versions. I'm sure some of those articles or forums that come up in the search will have suggestions for dealing with it.

I looked and I have RealOne Player. I did Google and yes it is reported that they are the worst. None of what came out actually explained how to get rid of it or what to replace it with, but I have another forum I will ask on.

Try to go to the control panel and uninstalling real player.

If you have files that need to be played that are in that format, there is a player called real alternative that works just fine.

Once you uninstall real player and reboot, if it stills comes up you may want to do a scan on your computer for spyware. you can go to trend micro (google search) and look for their products. One is called house call. IT will scan for virus and malware and is free.

I did decide to uninstall real player. I went to the real player folder and they had an 'uninstall' file, so I did it that way. I did as I said earlier find the 'realevent.exe' file in Program Files/Common Files and it was from Real Player. When I uninstalled Real Player, that file was deleted as well.

I have Windows Media Player and Quick Player and those should do me in general. If I find a file I can't view and need an alternative to Real Player, I will be happy to have the link you provided.

As for the Trend Micro, I have not heard of them. I have Spybot and Adaware and do frequent scans. I used to have 2squared that scans for trojans but it didn't update for me and I haven't gotten around to downloading the new one because I couldn't get it off my machine.

Have you used the Trend Micro product and does it do a good job and you feel comfortable with it's safety? Always like to have another scan. [g]
