Sony Customer Service Problems

On April 28 I purchased a Sony Vaio but had to return it b/c the keyboard was defective. I exchanged the defective Vaio for a replacement Vaio and 15 days later the DVD drive died. Unfortunately, the Best Buy return policy ends at 14 days and BB said I had to deal with Sony. In addition to the dead DVD driver the Turbo Boost wouldn't work.

The DVD drive was replaced and Sony said the Turbo Boost would work if I reformatted the hard drive.

Long story short, the Turbo Boost has never worked, reformatting caused IE8 to stop working properly, the laptop has been sent back to Sony three times in less than 4 months, twice in the last 30 days alone, for hardware repair (power cord/adapter was defective, the hard drive has been replaced twice, although there was nothing wrong with the hard drive until they replaced it the first time, and the first replacement of the DVD drive makes four repairs and IE8 and Turbo Boost still don't work). The Sony repair center said they don't fix software and will only replace hardware.

Sony's customer service, even their highest level known as National Customer Service, insist during phone calls that there is nothing that can be done except to keep returning it for repair.

After the fourth repair I received the laptop back today and IE8 still doesn't function properly, the hard drive died again but before it did the newest problem was the Bluetooth wouldn't work at all.

Every time Sony has "fixed" this laptop it has come back with another new problem and I have no idea why they replaced a hard drive that did work only to have the next two new hard drives die within days. The laptop has been down for repair for over 6 weeks, I have spent over 30 hours on the phone with Sony support, 7 in the last month alone, and I still don't have a working laptop.

I finally contacted a consumer action group today and they have a number of complaints regarding Sony products, including several for their Play Stations. They said the problem is Sony does not have a representative that can be reached by customers and/or consumer action groups to help resolve problems. If you call the phone number listed for Sony in Ft. Myers, FL, it rings once and disconnects. I have sent over a dozen emails to Sony's National Customer Service and received no response.

I paid $900 for this laptop and have lost double that in the time I've spent on the phone with Sony and the time the laptop has been down for repair.

I'm at the end of my rope with Sony. They deliberately make it impossible to address defective product issues. DON'T BUY SONY ANYTHING.
