microsoft office ultimate 2007

I'm usually semi-lurking at the kitchen table. I've seen quite a few references to this forum for any computer questions. I could use some help. My daughter is in college and wants microsoft office for her puter. Well, once I started looking I found out just how many different versions there are. I found one tonight called Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007. It's $679.95 on one site!!! Then I found it on a site that says you can download it directly to your computer from the website for $59.95, up to a 91% savings for college students. Have to have a school email that ends w/edu or your school has to be on a pre approved list. I posted a link to the site, if anyone wouldn't mind taking a look at the site and give their opinion if they think it's safe or not I would really appreciate it. Thank you very much for any help or recommendations you can give.

Your daughter might check directly with her college, normally where textbooks are purchased (bookstore) and they undoubtedly have those college deals right there besides, I would much prefer to have a CD disk rather than a download

Something is wrong with that website.
I smell a scam. Check out the page source.
The page code is not all from MicroSoft servers.
This gives it a deceptive look of authenticity.

I could be wrong but this one walks funny and quacks.

I would have removed Office 2000 first so that I get a squeaky clean install of Office 2007. Why start with a possibly muddied environment? At some point during the install of Office 2007 you are prompted to insert the Office 2000 CD verifying you are entitled to upgrade. When the install offered to browse for the old office it was looking for your CD which you would place in the drawer at that point. I do not believe just pointing to the folder was good enough, you needed to point to the executable file if you preferred that route to offering the original CD.

Bestlawn! I could have asked you over on KT! I had two lines; one I managed to delete, but I've fumbled around so much I cannot remember what I did! Yes, I think the enter/return is what seems to trigger it. When I try to select the line, a thin vertical highlight strip appears on the left above, through, and below the line, but it will not delete. I've spent the last 20-30 minutes trying to figure it out, searching "help." But it's no big problem, I can scroll it down to the blank page and not print that page. And now that I know how to draw lines w/o triggering the other line, I'll be ok. I suppose 2007 is ok when one gets used to it, but it sure takes up a lot of time getting to that point. It has a default of 1.5 spacing, which is not that good for me. Thanks...you're the "best!"

open office does work fine, I just open the 2003 doc then copy the content, open a 2007 docx, then paste. I suggest this for anyone having this problem. It takes over an hour to install open office, I guess a lot of people need it right now.

If it really is a border, then you would have a table and if you left clicked inside the table, a Design Tab would show in the toolbar, under that you would find a Borders dropdown with Borders and Shading where you can set it to none. If it is some text that has been accidentally highlighted gray, while on the Home Tab, you'll see ab with a blue arrow which is the Highlight Color Tool, right next to the Font Color. You may be talking about the right margin, I don't know if your gray line is horizontal or vertical. If the text is important, copy, click the big button at top left and create a New-Blank Document then paste it and see if it's the same. I'm assuming you're using Word, more info would be helpful.

Genes and Poohbear thanks for your responses. I would prefer a cd also Genes. And Poorbear, toooo funny. I read that disclaimer page you posted, slippery when wet!! Sign here without admission of guilt! just two of the lines I remember off the top of my head. Proof again that if it sounds too good to be true, it is. I found Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 for sale @ Staples on Black Friday for $59.99. I think I'll go with that one. Thanks again for your help and replies. Happy Thanksgiving!

I looked at the page and it looks legitimate to me. MS gives huge discounts to students. The other domains in the page source are ok also. Digital River is used by many companies for digital software downloads. w3.org is the World Wide Web Consortium. The other sites in the list box are just sites MS is using for other countries.

I've downloaded commercial software in the past and I've learned to burn a CD or DVD as soon as I get it downloaded. I install from the CD to ensure it's a good copy, then put it in a CD case with a label that includes name of the software and the license key (as well as anything else I might need to know the next time I change PCs or have a hard drive crash).

I did not know that about Digital River and w3.
Those were what red flagged it for me.
So maybe it is legit.

I got Office XP in about 2002 for $60 from the UTC book store.
My brother was a student there and we split the cost.
It is the student edition. I don't even use it anymore.
