HP printer update

We decided to try fix the printer I had so did an uninstall, then looked for everything to do with the printer, then tried to find the Windows installer clean up utility it looked like we had to download it so tried and got the following "No script engine for file extension ".vbs." any help will be welcomed, have 2 printers here now.

Ok so lets just try to install the printer, put the disk in the computer and follow the directions on it to start installing the software for the printer.

Are you going to use the old printer? or the new one if you use the new one it should have directions with it, let me know the make and model if your using the new one, I already know what the old one is....

Remember do not connect the printer yet the disk should tell you when to connect it to the computer.

HP usually has a "un-install" feature on the install disc. (Every HP printer I have ever had needed to be un-installed via the install disc. or it may come with the un-install in their program menu.) When I messed up an HP printer un-install and tried to re-install I had to call support and they had me put the disc in and run the un-install via the disc twice to make sure I cleaned everything out. Then I just installed it again without any problems. You might try that if all else fails.

If you use a Windows PC, you should be able to access a print queue or jobs list starting with Devices and Printers from the Start menu or in Control Panel. When you open that, double click on the icon that represents your printer and you should see that particular print job listed where you can select and then delete it.

I have the P1006 and it does this when I let it run out of paper. The print jobs get stuck in the queue and won't print. I usually unplug the unit for a little while, reconnect and it starts up again on reboot. It's a great printer, but this glitch is a pain in the neck. I hope this link will help. Nothing in the print queue. Checked out HP Solutions. Everything is updated. I've rebooted several times. I do have the disk, but hope to not have to do that. Those were all good ideas. I went back to the manual and looked through the index, and sure enough, there it was: "delete faxes from memory." Even though I haven't sent any faxes I followed the directions and, voilÃÂ Ã¯Â¿Â½, it prints! But I still hear that noise that I thought was a paper jam. No jam, front or back. I went back to HP Solutions and kept hunting until I found a neat little video that shows how to open the Control Panel to look for a jam there. I tried and it seems like it will take a real hard tug; it doesn't just come open. Now what, should I pull hard on it and hope it opens? Sue

So why not ignore the parts of your current printer you do not need and use the rest? There is not much of a market for used printers, unless you already have a buyer of course. Buying another while you have a useable one seems odd. Watch for sales, just a couple of weeks ago there were some Canons on sale for under $40. No idea where now but it was a great deal at the time and with the depressed economy bargains will pop up occasionally. There are 83 here, all between $50 and $100. Notice the 'Reviews'? click on any row of stars to read the reports of actual users to aid your search. I personally like HP or Canon. In a thread a few weeks ago a couple of users spoke highly of recent Lexmarks so perhaps they have smartened up somwhat.

One thing I have learned when installing HP printers is that you must follow the instructions to the letter. I would suggest uninstalling the old printer drivers and utilities first then open up the new installation instructions and start from square one with computer turned off etc. only hook up wires and turn on stuff when told to do so

I have the HP 2545 installed followed all the instructions and it went just fine, the only thing different I have noticed now with the computer is the start up when I turn the computer on after the welcome screen the screen goes blue with the curser for longer before the desktop loads.
I tested the printer its prints fast colours look good if the slow start up is normal I am pleased, also cleaned out the prefetch and ran the ccleaner and defrag.

"also cleaned out the prefetch"

And that (could) cause a slower boot time now windows has to look for files instead of prefetching them - over time that problem of slower boot will or should go away...
