Simple solution: use a card reader. It also has the advantage of not drawing down your camera battery.

I uninstalled the Kodak software and now when I connect the Easyshare and turn it on, the Win XP camera and scanner wizard pops up. It only worked one time with the Kodak software though and then nothing.

Oy, I had no idea Kodak would attempt to control my interaction with my camera and computer in this way. It should be just a simple download. If I had known this I never would have bought this camera. It's now going to be a whole big deal runaround. I didn't want to buy a card reader to save money. Thanks for the idea about going to Kodak's Web site though fruitjarfla. So far no luck but I have to get to work so we'll see. I first tried without the software installed and didn't have much luck with that either. But I did do it once, so I can't figure this out. It worked only once. I am really aggravated I bought this camera now!

a card reader cost like $6 in fact I got mine free after rebate but I have bought them at big lots for $6 they are very very cheap and in my opinion the only way to deal with digital cameras and the pictures, using one eliminates the camera from the equation and as stated keeps the camera from using up battery power. Stick the memory card into the card reader move the pics to the pc, select the safely remove icon to remove the card reader and memory card. Simple.
I never ever put that software that comes with cameras on my computers.

Great news about the card reader, I had no idea they were that inexpensive! I tried "repairing" the software and that didn't work. Not much luck with the ideas on the Kodak web site so far. I'll check on a card reader today because I have to go to the store anyway.

Yes, card readers are cheap, especially compared to...How much time have you spent on this problem? If you can't find one inexpensively where you live, try Frys.com, Amazon.com, or Buy.com.

I have the Kodak Easy Share, and it works the same way on both my XP and Vista computers. I did not install any driver for the camera. I did install the Kodak program. Once the program is installed, leave the camera off, hook up your usb cable to both the computer and the camera. Now open easy share software. Turn on the camera. You should get up a box, that says, windows has detected new hardware, and it will install a driver for the camera. Once done, Kodak, will come up with a box, to transfer all the pictures. I dont store my pictures in Kodak (it does keep a copy though, that I delete later). I have gone into preferences, and have all photos,directed to go to a folder on my desktop. Your camera, most likely is different than mine, since mine is a couple years old, but my grandaughters is much newer than mine, and she has no problems, putting her pictures on my computer using this method, and my daughter recently got a new Kodak, and she had no problem putting them on my computer either. Cat, that's exactly what happened the first time I downloaded my photos and used the camera with my PC. The second time I wanted to download pictures, it did NOT work that way. No window, no signal that the computer was interfacing with the camera. Cannot use the software to "contact" the camera, it doesn't see it. Kodak's suggestions on their Web site so far have not worked. I can try re-installing the software, but I tried the "repair" feature and that did not work, so who knows. Some kind of protocol/interface glitch. I may get around to messing some more with the software, but it's a time issue with all of this stuff. I bought a card reader last night (for $9.34 at Staples) but have not tried it yet. You are right about the time thing Kudzu, and if I had imagined I was going to have to invest this amount of time and fussing with this camera I would have gotten another brand/model.

Good luck with the card reader. They usually just plug in and the computer simply recognizes the new drive. And you can use it to put pictures from your camera on any computer without having to have the Kodak software. I have owned a number of digital cameras and I never bother sticking the proprietary software on my computer any more.

And as for the time/money issue: thanks for taking that comment in the spirit it was intended. I am a veteran of many, similar frustrating experiences!

Try a different card it might be bad. Did you format the card before you use it the first time? Or the slot could be bad some cards I need put in/out a few times before it gets recognized. HTH

Great news, the card reader worked like a charm!! Groovy little device that is! Maybe someday I'll try fussing with the Kodak software again, but not likely!
