Windows xp question

I first heard that Winxp is being replaced by Vista. I dont like it,tried it on my granddaughters. Then I heard you can still get Win xp due to poular demand....which is right?

Windows XP will be supported by Microsoft for some time yet. In fact, I'm willing to bet that they'll keep supporting it (providing updates, etc.) until the newest OS, Windows 7 comes out.

they have recently in fact extended the date that companies can continue to put xp on new computers so they are definitely still supporting it and will continue to for some time in the future. I agree till past the release of Windows 7 most likely. Now it will be supported well past that date but the purchase of it on pc's will end. They will have to continue support of it since they have extended it's life cycle.

What they have stopped is providing xp for sale to stores to sell it in the box, you can still find it in some stores and online but when those supplies are gone that is all.

My 3 boxes are of the following ALERTS: Firewall, Auto Updates, and Virus Protection. I don't think it wise to uncheck those! How are you going to know of danger and risk? Urlee

Messenger & MSN browser have check marks .. so they are installed. You sort of did things backwards. Just browse and expand that list and put a check mark next to your Games & they'll come back. As you notice more things that don't work.. browse that again and add checkmarks. Usually nothing in there is required - all sort of optional stuff that is enabled when it does have a check mark to the item wanted. So uncheck your messenger and MSN browser & they'll go away & use a few less memory and cpu resources and save a few drive bytes.

After much debate, I decided on XP because of software compatibility issues and information sharing between the new computer and the older XP. Both computers are used for work and must work together. I purchased the new computer to upgrade, down-the-line, to Vista. One problem I didn't consider was MS Office. The new machine was only sold with Office 07. The older machine has Office 03. All Word docs have to be saved at 03 docs on the new machine in order to be opened on the older machine. I guess it depends on what you use it for. I didn't have time to fool with getting Vista to work with what I need for work.

Hi Worthy, Thanks for your detailed response. Sorry I've been slow to follow up but the day job gets in the way... My contractor just began digging for the crawl space today (I'll post a question about that separately). Since we already have approved plans, I wasn't sure if using the XPS in place of sheathing will fly with the county, but the contractor is also concerned with applying the hardy board siding over the foam. He says because of the weight of the siding and the softness of the foam it creates problems. He is suggesting we put the foam between studs and also suggests we consider spray in foam. Thoughts on any of this? I think the cellulose for the cathedral ceiling in particular is a great option. We'll look at the non-vented tight packed option. Thanks again and any other thoughts are welcome.
