Vista has now been out about 6 months. Personally I cannot see the sense of paying about the same amount of money for XP that Vista costs. If MS were clearing out old stock (XP) for half price then it might be worth buying but there is no reduction to be had

Most of those who complain are the very new users who have not really given themselves a chance to get comfortable perhaps. Vista is here to stay.

Vista currently supports in excess of 2.1 million devices and that over 2,000 programs have received certification for the operating system.
They've already released the Vista Compatibility, Performance and Reliability Pack to testers which may be part of latest build of Vista SP1 as a way to improve the user experience with the operating system.

Get it before windows areo is old news.

Most of the problems I've seen with Vista involve compatibility issues with older software and hardware. I had to buy a new printer because my six year old Lexmark inkjet had no Vista drivers.

Your new PC should be fully Vista compatable. You may want to check the availability of Vista drivers for any hardware items, such as printers and scanners, you want to connect to the PC.

Just as older software had been designed for older operating systems and may not perform well under Vista, newer software is being written specifically for Vista and my not perform well with older operating systems like XP.

I was making the same decison about 4 months ago and decided to go with Vista. XP has been around for a while now and Vista will be around for a lot longer. After some initial hiccups I'm more than happy with my decision to go with Vista. This coming from a diehard 98se user.

I'm sorry but this is a no brainer here. XP though somewhat current is an aging O/S. To buy it now would be like purchasing a new 2005 vehicle.

I came from a personal Win98 OE environment to a new dual core Vista system without any concerns other than the traditional locating features. Admittedly I do use XP and Win 2000 regularly at work so the change over was not as severe as others might of had.

I cannot see any reason not to go with Vista.

After much debate, I decided on XP because of software compatibility issues and information sharing between the new computer and the older XP. Both computers are used for work and must work together. I purchased the new computer to upgrade, down-the-line, to Vista.

One problem I didn't consider was MS Office. The new machine was only sold with Office 07. The older machine has Office 03. All Word docs have to be saved at 03 docs on the new machine in order to be opened on the older machine.

I guess it depends on what you use it for. I didn't have time to fool with getting Vista to work with what I need for work.

Gene I have read the same thing about the gamers. I think the highend users would know the difference but for the average Joe Gamer they would need to know whether they aew buying a 32 or 64 bit system.
