WANTED: Part 1 from Gina

Wow! I had a whirlwind day yesterday between getting home from the hospital and getting Part 1 of my swap package. Yep, I have Part 1 and I can't believe I have more on the way! Gina says that when I get Part 2 of the box I'll see why they are spaced apart. She says she is not teasing me! Mmmmhummm, we'll see! She also says that there is no theme. Well, I see a theme...Great Stuff in a Box!!

When I first opened my box I see TRADER JOES White Corn Puffs!! I remember Gina talking about these with great lust and admiration. I can't wait till I can try them. I next open a beautiful pink iridescent candy dish. IÂm so excitedÂpink is a favorite color of mine and I love bowls! You guys remember the thread "Do you have a penchant or a fettish?" Yep, Gina did her sleuthing because I pulled another bowl out of the box!!

Gone are the days that I put eggs on to boil and walk away only to have exploded eggs about 20 minutes later!! I am now the proud owner of a timer you can wear around your neck. I absolutely think this is the best invention since sliced bread!

Gina really knows what kinds of snacking foods I like. Just look at the goodies she sent me from Traders Joes. {{gwi:1464049}}

Last, but certainly not least, I open a bubble wrapped book that I have had my thoughts about getting for quite some time. I am now the proud owner of "My Life in France" Gina must have read somewhere that my cooking hero is Julia Child. This book was written by Alex PrudÂhomme, Paul ChildÂs grandnephew. This book is filled with black and white photography that Paul loved to take when he was with his family.

Gina, this is a very special box of goodies that I will treasure for a long time. IÂll think of you often when I use my beautiful little bowls to serve candy or what not it. IÂm looking forward to Part 2 but it certainly canÂt beat this "box of stuff" you sent me!

There's more on the way?! Woohoo!! I'm wanting something snacky right now and those cheese puffs would fit the bill. Something else I've gotta try.

Yes. THANK GOODNESS IS RIGHT JODI! I was just at HD lastnight when I noticed all knds of bulbs, seeds, and many spring items coming in! Guess what I saw surrounding all the seeds and bulbs like the great wall of China? Big bags of Miracle Grow...lol Yup. Somebody is making tons of money on that stuff. Not from me anyway. By the way, I also saw tons of houseplants, mostly all of them left for dead! All were so dehydrated, including the beautiful Hoya's they had just gotten two weeks ago. The mix in those pots was peat based and hard as a rock! They were also infested with mites! My goodness, I will never take a plant home from them this time of year. We are happy you are watching yourself and not pushing anymore huge piles in wheel barrows. Lets's bring in the warm temps. Suppose to be in the 50's by next weeks end and finally, just maybe I can finally draw some fresh water from my 30 gallon barrel that has been frozen since December. I can't even see any of my bushes or shrubs under all this snow. I can't wait just to see the ground again.:-) Xuan: I would love to see some pics of your flowering bulbs. I would also like to say to you that I am so happy to see that you are no longer getting any snow..lol -3 degrees this am with temps in my popup at 40. I hope to God that my Hoya's make it ok since I forgot to bring them in. It should be warmer from here on out, thank God. Have a happy Friday everyone! Mike

Julia Mariska seems to be doing ok, her substance on her flowers is thin, though. A little bit of water and she melts away, and starts to melt away in the afternoon. Stormy Monday made it through the winter great. Most of my daylilies were new last year, with a few new ones this year, and most made it through the winter with no problems. I lost a couple and a few struggled to get going this spring, but Stormy Monday had no problems at all. Sharons2 I have both Dragon's Eye and Little Red Dragon, and to be honest, I don't see much difference between the two flowers. Both are too new for me to judge quite yet, but I think Dragon's Eye puts out more blooms. They both look great to me, but I actually prefer Dragon's Eye. I need to find some of those chopstick helpers. Sebastian is actually quite good with chopsticks and has been since about the age of 2. however he needs the paper and rubberband thing, or the kind that is attached. However he has snapped several of the attached ones. He is a fidgeter. I love it all!! The dipping bowls are beautiful, outside of the kids chopsticks I love the very first set in the photo. Something about that simple dot pattern really appeals to me. Of course the copper is beautiful and it will look wonderful in Deb's beautiful kitchen. I love the photo of the helpers. -Robin

Samantha, Absolutely, lack of expansion joints could have also been the part of the problem, which is unrelated to grout joint size. When installing, manufacturer instructions comes first, then the standards second if there is missing or conflicting information and instruction. If there is a failure, an inspector (or a court) will first use manufacturer specs and instructions, because they are the liable responsible party in a claim, so their information takes presidence. Thats what installer must follow first if there is conflict, and if there is missing information, the TCNA/ANSI standards come in. Now, many manufacturers refer to the TCNA/ANSI standards. Additionally, some manufacturers do not offer all needed information which then the TCNA/ANSI standards kick in. Every installer should be well versed in both. There are many tile and stone manufacturers who still allow for ultra thin grout joints. In regards to the standards changes you mention in grout joint sizes, indeed the TCNA/ANSI has made recommendations for the first time concerning grout joint size and spacing. To completely understand the new changes you have to understand how recommendations are made. When they say "in general", these are not absolute standards. Simply guidance lacking any other source taking presidence. When they say "absolute", these are standards that are never to be strayed from. The new changes on grout joint width is an "in general recommendation" or situational recommendation. Ultimately, the project owner should choose the grout joint they desire. -from the TCNA website. Please view the TCNA link for more information. It explains it pretty well. If you have tile cut or manufactured to tight size tolerances, you can have any joint size you wish. Of course, as I stated before, not all tile is able to be installed with the ultra thin grout joints. Again this is situational. There is no absolute standard for tile joint width. Tile it is a finish topical product, relying on the subfloor/framing/substrate structure for rigidity and in-range deflection for its stability and structure. Now if you continue to believe otherwise, that the tile system itself aides in overall system stability and structural integrity and/or that grout joint size matters at all when tile sizing is withing parameters, I really dont know how else to convince you. Since this obviosuly matters a great deal to you, I would suggest you buy a copy of the standards. Its relatively inexpensive. Then you can read for yourself in context. Also I would suggest that you start reading up on tile manufacturers installation guidelines and instruction for various products you may be interested in, as they take presidence, although they usually are in line with the standards. That is a very nice package...and cool that you get to open another one, also! You will love that timer. They are a "godsend." And almost anything from TJ's is fantastic!

This is only part 1?? You lucky duck. The timer is wonderful. I forget stuff on the stove more than I remember it. I could use it for a lot of things. Sure beats a string around the finger.

TJ's bruschetta is one of my absolute favorites from there. I just bought some.

Nice package, Gina. I can't wait to see Part 2!

Shut up Jessica!

So glad nothing was broken. Did I put enough bubble-wrap in the box? I have boxes and bubble-wrap and styrofoam coming out of my ears from ordering all this kitchen stuff from eBay and such.

I took some pictures but naturally I haven't uploaded them yet. The glass bowls are vintage and I loved them so much when I saw them I went and ordered some for myself. And I didn't even know I liked vintage stuff! Dang swaps. I am not a collector of "things!" - I am not a collector of "things!"... LOL.

But seriously now y'all, I am so happy that you're back home and mending riverrat. You had us worried there. By the way, your DH is a real sweetie!

I've already had green Jello in my pretty three footed bowl! But wouldn't ya know it...I forgot to take a picture.

Oh, I love that vintage dish! Cool timer, what a great idea! That Italian Bruschetta is a favorite of mine, sent Katie some in her package, but now I want to try that artichoke & heart of palm one. I love anything artichoke!

Karen, I love that timer! What a great gift! I love bowls, too. Those pink glass footed bowls are great! That white cheddar popcorn sounds delicious! IÂd love to get my hands on that Julia Child book, just to look at the photos, if nothing else! The Trader JoeÂs goodies look yummy! IÂd especially like to try the Cuban one! And thereÂs more to come??!! Lucky, lucky you!

Love the first box waiting with baited breath to see what is in the second!

I've got a question about the three footed bowls. Are the depression glass? Does anyone here know ANYTHING about it? I have a sister who collects pink depression glass, but being totally stupid about it, I'm very afraid of buying something for her and then finding out it is a reproduction. How do you tell? (Sorry for the hijack, but it is sort of on topic!)

I have been using my little bowls for EVERYTHING!! I love them. I'm finding they are perfect for individual servings of ice cream, Jell-O, boiled potatoes, soup, broth, sweet banana pudding and pasta. Today I'm jumping in there with a little boiled chicken! Whoo hoo! I'm going to start adding a little substance to my diet this week and I can't figure out if I want to use the peach salsa on a Tuna steak or just eat it out of the jar. I can't wait!

Gina, I love these little bowls! They look so pretty just sitting on the counter....they match my kitchen because of a soft peachy glow they have. The book is a very interesting read. I'm almost halfway finished with it!
