I have that happen occasionally too, the spammers figure out a way around the filters. A bunch of spam for a few days and then it disappears again.

Interestingly, I have more problems with my paid ISP account than any of my free accounts (Hotmail, Gmail, etc.).

Since "all kinds" is arbitrary in nature I am not quite sure how bad your problem is. Did you by chance open a spam inadvertently or unsubscribe to something? Sometimes the subjects can be tricky. Either of these actions could verify the e-mail address as valid and put you on the list which the spammers continually use, trade and sell. As Mikie says if its just two or three there is a strong chance this grief will pass on its own.

You will probably find placing them in your blocked sender's list has absolutely no affect other than filling the list endlessly. These are not the users real addresses but are frequently spoofed.

I have been getting about 50 Spams a day lately on an account that had started refusing to send or receive emails for nearly a week. Once the problem seemed to be solved the Spam started. There had been a very long peaceful spell before and it was great.

Can't the spam also come from emailers who send forwards including your email addy and not using BCC (Blind Carbon Copy)? I understand that a senders contact list can be compromised also. There are several ways to get your email addy added to a spammers list besides what has been mentioned. They can get you coming and going :o(

These emails appear to be RX related and though they have various email addresses, the email text is the same. I can tell b/c I have the "view window below" open so I can see the email content without actually opening them.

Hopefully, they stop - soon!

If you are seeing the content then you are opening them. You must have your email set to "View". Once an email is viewed the senders know they have reached a viable email address. You need to change that in your settings and set up a spam filter pronto!

In other words uncheck "show preview pane" in View>Layout in Windows Mail

Yes it can indeed but good luck trying to get your friends and family to understand that one. Remember too any time you sign a petition, play those letter changing games or any other emails that get forwarded there is a good chance every one of those goes to a collection centre.

Yep, almost all of my spam is RX related too. I'm sure they come from the endless emai addresses in forwards I receive. I tried to inform people of the dangers of not using BCC, but owbist is correct. They either don't care or just ignore the advise because they can't figure out how to delete the email addresses.

Setting up an email account for just registering at sites, forums and internet ordering does help keep the spam out of my personal email account, but its those friends and family who send forwards who cause what spam I do get in that account.

debi I hope you take the advice given and disable that preview pane in your email that is one of the very first things you should do when opening any new email account. It is a danger and it lets the sender know you are a good and valid email address so they know to keep on sending. This is a quote from a site about email safety

"For convenience, many email programs provide automatic views of email called the "Preview Pane." Unfortunately, this means that any malicious code in the email body may get executed also. Or a signal may be sent to a spammer showing that you are reading the message. Steps can be taken to help allow safe use of the Preview pane but some may prefer to be sure and will want to turn off this feature. That way only mail that you deliberately choose to open will be displayed. Different email programs will have somewhat different procedures for disabling the Preview pane"
