Kitchenaid cooktop, GE Monogram or Whirlpool fridge & oven

At this point I'm targeting two sets of appliances for a kitchen remodel:

Option 1:

Kitchenaid 30", 5 burner gas (propane) cooktop (SS)

KA downdraft vent (either 600 or 900 cfm) (SS)

KA panel-ready dishwasher

GE Monogram approx. 21.7 cuft side-by-side refrigerator (SS)

GE Monogram single built in oven with convection, electric

or,

Kitchenaid 30", 5 burner gas (propane) cooktop (SS)

KA downdraft vent (either 600 or 900 cfm) (SS)

KA panel-ready dishwasher

Whirpool approx. 21.7 cuft side-by-side refrigerator (SS)

Whirpool single built in oven with convection, electric

Any thoughts...good...bad...?

Slight correction...I'm new to the appliance market... The GE appliances I'm looking at are not the Monogram series as far as I can tell. I think they are just the standard GE offerings. I didn't like the extra black used on the Profile series...so I'm looking at "all stainless" as much as possible.

I have a Kitchenaid 5 burner gas (not propane) stainless with a downdraft.
Only problem with the cooktop: right after we got it my husband made a big batch of bean soup in one of those big tin roasters like your Mom used and set it over two burners. The iron grate got too hot and melted the rubber tips on the feet which keep it from scratching the cook top. Kitchenaid sent us a new one right away. Great service. The cooktop works pretty well for the price range but no comparison to a Viking gas stove I used to have once upon a time, but for the price it's pretty good. Better than the Jennair that I had yanked out, that's for sure. I would stay completely away from that one!!!
As for the "downdraft" ....ugg...this is my third downdraft (various brands) and in my opinion there isn't a downdraft that works. May as well not even have one. They're #1: filthy and impossible to clean, and can get "stinky",
#2: If you are using anything taller than a skillet everything goes right over the top of the downdraft and right into the house,
#3: the only time they do slightly pull anything out is when you cook on the very back burner. You will still know you fried fish though, if you catch my drift! :)
#4: if you are using a skillet on one of the front burners it goes right over the top of the downdraft and into the house. YOU CAN SEE IT!
The solution: an overhead unit that pulls up and outside, which means you have to have overhead electric over your cook top, and venting as well. $$$$$$
Unfortunately I can't do that in my existing kitchen but believe me if I ever remodel I would get a setup that allowed for the overhead kind vented to the outside of the house. The ceiling in my kitchen is covered with grunge because DOWNDRAFTS DON'T WORK.

I can second what Cookingpassion has said about the ZET oven. I've lived with the single wall oven (ZET1) for about a year now and am completely pleased with it. Very quick preheat, quiet fan, rolling racks, large oven cavity, easy-to-use controls, very even cooking/baking/browning of food, and easy to clean up. I've run the self-clean numerous times and it does a beautiful job. It is FAR superior to the Kitchenaid Architect wall oven in our previous home. My other top contenders were Thermador and Fisher-Paykel and I'd choose the Monogram again today. We have paired it with a Wolf AG range and the Monogram wins as our go-to everyday oven because of its fast preheat and self-cleaning function. However, you can't beat the gas oven for broiling, roasting, etc.

Thanks for the quick reply dlspellman! I have two questions for you about the GE since we won't be able to actually see one, let alone try it out. Does the GE Profile "hum" loudly on high or at all on low? We had a chance to try out the KA at the dealer and were impressed that it made so little noise (we tried out the Miele and it was loud). Also, with the KA we noticed a "ring" of bubbles (like a donut) - which we believe are the magnetic coils - when the water is heating up. Does this happen with the Profile? We are concerned with even heating on the whole surface of the pan at low temperatures. Thanks again!

withoutanh... If the date of your first service call to complain was within warranty, they have to continue to work on that issue until resolved, even past that warranty period. It's their fault the problem continued because their attempts and explanations did not resolve the problem. I think you should ask to speak to a supervisor at the store, and at GE customer service. Report the problem to the Better Business Bureau and renew your comments that it was defective upon delivery and their failure to cure the problem when reported is the only reason the problem continues to be reported after the warranty. So many companies try to shirk their legal responsibilities with this type of behavior and you shouldn't give up as they hope you do. Posting seems the only way to get satisfaction but that shouldn't be the only option. Try, try again! You are making me reconsider a choice of GE appliances, so thanks for posting.

I would also like to laud the monogram service. We had an issue with our newly installed hood being too loud. A GE tech. with 20+ years came out and showed me how it was wrongly installed. He even fudged the service records so I did not have to pay in spite of it being my problem. I really like the fact that they did not send out a tech. who knows nothing about the appliance - that is what happened when I needed service on my Bosch dishwasher.

I've heard similar comments on downdrafts...I'm thinking/hoping that going with a 900 cfm unit rather than the stock 600 cfm fan will help somewhat. I will check into the cleaning aspect though. There must be a way.

With the kitchen/house I'm working with I don't see another option other than the downdraft...unless I want cooking splatters on the wood panel surrounding the fridge (similar to the current setup where the range right next to the fridge splatters on the fridge itself). An overhead venting system would really put a crimp in the look of the new kitchen..nit sure it would even be feasible.

ugh.
