Digital frame question

I have never had one of these but this might be the solution to a problem I am having.

My daughter just got married here in North America and we have lots of photos . Now we are going to a dinner reception in England next week because her husband is from the UK and alot of the family and friends could not come over for the wedding so there will be another smaller dinner there.

I would like to have some photos from the wedding on display and I am thinking a digital frame might be the answer but can I just plug it in there with the right converter or do these frames also run on batteries and for approx. how long? I have not bought one yet but if you people think this would work I could go get one tonight or tomorrow since we leave on Monday. Any suggestions or tips ?

I have one and love it, my husband got it for me as a gift he got it at Costco. Mine only has the plug in and I am sure if you can get a converter for their power it would work fine.
It is super easy to load, I use the usb port on it and a flash thumb drive, move the pics from my pc to the flash drive then onto the frame. It has special effects and stuff too that are neat. I think it would be an excellent way to show off your pics and be used as a display. Mine came with a little remote too.

Most are powered only by an AC adapter, but I've heard there are a few that also have battery power,. Check the specs on any frame you are interested in: many of them can handle 100-240V AC input, which means you would not need to buy a special transformer to make it work in England, just a couple dollar adapter plug to allow the U.S.-style plug to mate with a British receptacle. (See the link below for a kit with several adapters; this would handle whatever you encountered in England.)

The most important thing to me is the screen resolution: some of the less expensive ones have pretty low resolution and the pictures look grainy. If it were me, I'd pick one with the best resolution I could afford, and just get a plug adapter.

I have a smartparts and love it, the remote is about the size of a pack of playing cards but very thin but easy to see with large buttons, all I have to do is stick my usb thumb drive in it and upload the pictures to the frame memory, it turns off each night at a specified time and turns on in the morning at a set time, it is great and very easy to use. I really like it and would recommend it, my husband got it for me for Christmas from costco. I just got a little piece of the self stick velcro and stick the remote to the back of the frame so I don't lose it. You do not need any type of connection other than plugging it into the power. Mine is 8.4 inches which is perfect for my desk. It does the various fades in and out and auto rotation and transitions, the pics are extremely clear.

Actually , that's a good idea, but I was thinking she could put it in her office ( they both work in same place) and I'm sure they already have all that other stuff. They both make a lot of money. Can you even get a 19 inch LCD or plasma tv for that little?

You can get card readers that will accept memory sticks, secure digital cards, compact flash cards, etc. You need to know which "memory stick" it takes. If it's Sony, it probably does use an actual memory stick. If you tell Kurmudgeon which model it is, someone can look it up and see what it takes. JoanMN/FL

Mine takes a little sd card,it's like the one that comes with the camera. I hook my camera to my computer using a usb cable. I then make a folder with just the pics i'm going to want to use in my frame. You can use any pictures you have on your computer. I bought a Targus card reader writer. sd/sdhc/mmc ( those are all the diffent cards) at Walmart for just a few dollars. It hooks up to your computer by an usb. Put your little card into this and plug it into usb port. Open you folder with your pics and choose to copy them to the reader. When finished take the little disc out and insert it into the opening thats on the picture frame. Turn on frame and it will read all the pictures. There are all kinds of setting to how your picturres display. If you only want the pictures thats on your camera disc and not any others you can take the disc from the camera and put it right into the frame. Then you have to buy another disc ( sd card) for your camera. I have one folder of pictures of my daughters growing up and now with families of there own and use just those pictures for one of my frames. It's really very easy, i've probably made it sound harder but it's not.

Another possibility would be to copy the photos onto a memory card and ask if somebody in the U.K. has a laptop that they would be willing to bring to the reception. That way the photos will me considerably larger and will be much better quality for everyone to see.

I say that because my 7 inch digital frame is excellent quality but it is still very disappointing viewing photos on it compared with even a small laptop - and if someone has a 17 inch screen you will have a real wow factor display!

I agree with Colin about using a laptop for viewing. Another way would be to put all the pictures onto a USB flash drive and plug that into a laptop for viewing.
