I found the info and will paste at the end of this post but the picture can be pretty big. salbwil just tell us what program you are using to resize and right click on the picture and click properties on the drop down menu and tell us what size it is. The little Avatar next to your posts is limited to the same or maybe 100 each way..... Regular pictures, like in this forum, can be fairly large - almost full screen (1000 wide by 1000 high) and up to 200KB (200,000 bytes). But, many folks donÂt know the basics of email and web pics - IÂll try to explain. Pictures sent to the web and by email are best at what is called "screen resolution" meaning that they somewhat match the size od the dots on our monitors. For our purposes, this is aout 72 DPI (or dots per inch)..... What the average person needs is an "Image Management Program" and NOT the one that comes with Windows! If you are a PC user, download the free program called Picasa - This will organize and store all the photos on your disk and also allow you to export smaller copies (for web, etc.) and to even fix the photos up a bit! Apple users already have an image management program, iPhoto, which comes with every mac. To prepare web photos in iPhoto, simply select the photo or photos, go to Export (or it might say Share in newer versions) and when the dialog box comes up use the part that says "scale no bigger than" to select what you want the size of the exported photo to be. For purposes of this board, a photo with a width of 400-700 is ideal. Now, with Picasa, it is pretty much the same thing. Select the photo or photos and go to Export to Folder- the box shown in the picture below will come up and then you can select the picture size - say 480 wide as in this example. The other slider will compress the file size so the picture loads faster. In most cases, anything over 50% is good. If you are a user of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, use the "Image Size" dialog bx to convert your photo to 72 DPI and approx. 400-600 pixels wide (the height will work out automatically) - then use "Save for Web" and tryjpg "medium", file size should be really small. msm84 (My Page) on Tue, Aug 5, 08 at 0:41 I'm a photographer who downloads 600-800 photos every week and I have never downloaded via the camera. Nothing damages a memory card faster! Its always best to use a card reader or like I do use the card reader built into my HP computer. I disagree. When I had Windows 98, I used to ALWAYS DL my photos using a USB cable from camera to computer with an adaptor plugged into the camera so not to drain the batteries which I loved the best. All set up for that. I had trouble getting my camera software program to work on XP so have to resort to "pulling" the card out of the camera each time to insert into the memory slot of my computer (same as using card reader) which I think is more damaging to the memory card as it is "wear & tear" leaving scratches on it. Leaving it in the camera is easier on the card. I never had trouble where now I have to be so careful in pulling & pushing in and out not only from the camera, but the memory slot as well, which is harder on the card. Stands to reason. I damaged a card by doing it that way opposed to years of doing it from the camera with no problem. More work involved the camera way but worth not damaging a card over. Urlee

i downloaded irfanview and all plugins. i resized a jpeg and it did it but it uses paintbrush or paint and saves the resized image as a bmp extention not a jpeg. when i tried to upload the resized file it was refused because the file is not valid.... ie not jpeg. :( :( so now i am wondering if i should uninstall this product as it is not doing what i want. IMPORTANT question - when i installed irfanview a window appeared asking about associations. i did not know what to do as all associations were NOT checked and i figured it made sense to use these associations so it knows how to open files with different extentions. so i clicked on select all. the next window then asked, and this is the issue, "You want to change current associations and to associate one or many file types with IrfanView! Are you REALLY sure?" that is an exact quote i did not add ! or caps. so i worried about the current wording and when it capitalized really, well i said no. it accepted that. so i assume i ended up with the same thing as if i did not check select all and left all boxes unchecked. should i have gone with select all and replied yes? i was afraid this might cause conflicts with other programs and their functions. not sure what to do. any suggestions? remember win 98 se did all this in mozilla browser. thanks, tom
