Vista and Flash

I was trying to watch some videos online on my new pc with Vista (hate it already) and got a message saying I needed flash player installed. I clicked on the link to the download and it gave this message:

"Adobe Flash Player is not supported for playback in a 64-bit browser. However, you can run Flash Player in a 32-bit browser running on a 64-bit operating system."

Can someone please interpret what I need to do on this computer? thanks

I treied to download flash but I am now on free dialup 28kbps and it said it would take over an hour to download. Then it "finished" in 20 minutes and said "file is corrupt".

ok is your Vista a 64 bit version or a 32 bit version? you will need to go to your device manager and look at the info there, actually even better you could get belarc advisor and it will tell you a ton of info about your pc it is free but I am not sure how long it would take on your dial up, but if you want to do that here is the link

those sites should show you which versions of flash and shockwave you have on your pc, if you hold your mouse over the about on the shockwave page it gives the info on the flash player.

So we need to know what version of Vista you have and also what browser are you using?

you could go get the firefox browser and put it on your pc and then go get the appropriate plugins for that browser for flash and it would work.
on the Flash download page you would want to look where it says which browser it is and there will be an option that says alternate operating system or browser that is where you click to find the right one for the browser you are using so if you want the one for firefox you need to have it say it is for firefox, same with IE you want the one that says for IE.

Belarc v7.2x is 1772KB. From past experiences on this antique DUN of mine it will take 8-9 minutes for her to download it.

The rate is about five minutes a MB (1024KB).

Head shaking and laughing is approved.

I think for the SanDisk to work on Win98SE you will need to download a driver and install on the 98 machine. SanDisk Windows 98 Driver Windows Vista has the Easy Transfer Wizard, you can read more about it here As far as transfering from one computer, you'll need a RJ45 connector wire and plug it into the ethernet card on each computer. They do make a Easy Transfer Cable. This is a special USB cable that is designed to work with Windows Vista and Windows Easy Transfer and you just connect USB to USB. Programs usually don't work if you transfer them, they need to be installed from the CD or a setup.exe installer. If you're lucky, the programs may have the setup-installer inside the folder of the program. Who knows whether they will install on Vista because of there age. If they do install and not work, you may be able to right click the program icon and choose compatibly mode for Win98.

Not sure I, mikie, understand your operational question. If you asking can you share application outputs like Word, Excel, Powerpoint (most others I could think of) the answer is YES, using a flash drive, floppy (ha), Ethernet, WiFi will all work. You should also be able to share files (shared folders) between Vista and XP (W98 for that matter). If you asking can you run "application-x" on Vista, then you need to check with "application-x" and or Microsoft. I have a 6 month old Dell with XP Media and it qualifies for a "free" update to Vista (Premium, is that the name?), with a $10 S&H payment. I have order it and it has not yet come, but I did get a notice last night that UPS has something coming my way from Dell. This may mean Dell believes MS has gotten to Bugs out... ha again, I may just "sit" on the upgrade for a while longer. I would not upgrade any of your existing XP machines to Vista.

Update: 1. Original router Dl-524 on XP was dying, then died. 2. XP machine now functioning as wireless with new router (D-Link WBR-2310 -- it was cheap because store running a special!). Set it up during 2-hour phone call to ISP (Verizon) and done manually -- he wanted to bypass the CD w/router even though the package said "use CD first." 3. Used Recovery Partition pre-installed on Vista machine. But when restart, still same 3 messages as before: a. apsInitialize b. apsGetInterfaceCount c. WLAN Monitor stopped 4. Google searches with the above (a, b, & c) gathered pages and pages of hits, some helpful some not. Many lead to dead-end in forums closed to outsiders -- a subscribe-here type. But all summaries were related to errors appearing after person installed, or attempted to install, a D-Link router Bottom line: Because using the Recovery Partition didn't get rid of the error messages, I wonder if I need to swap existing Vista for different Vista (but same model). I'm going to stop by store on way home from office to ask them. I hope original salesman is there as he is knowledgeable, the store guru, and has helped me before. Any thoughts?

camp56, damccoy,ravencajun, and stargazzer, Thank you for the quick responses. Below are my answers to the questions you have asked. The browser is IE8. The version I downloaded yesterday was Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX. I uninstalled it, and downloaded and installed it again. Using START> Control Panel>Programs and Features I confirmed what I re-downloaded was Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX. The system I have is 32 bit. After downloading and installation, I still could not see any animation. I went to the sites that ravencajun suggested, went on YouTube too, saw nothing but the same dreadful messages " You don't have current Adobe Flash Player", or "cannot find Adobe Flash Player". I have not try Safe Mode yet. Will it help? How can I get to it? Thank you again for the help.
