It is truly unfortunate that you or any member have concerns with their systems, particularly after upgrading the O/S. However, this happens time and time again where the euphoria of anticipation is doused by the rain of reality when a new O/S is released and user upgrades follow. Not all systems, all software or all peripherals will work as we know it, if at all, when an O/S upgrade is completed. For those who did the double jump from XP to W7 the trepidation is even greater. I personally have been recommending Vista users not to upgrade as I feel it is a waste of money due to the major duplicity of Vista and W7. If members are thinking that compatibility issues have been "fun" in the past wait until the release of W8. It will be a 128-bit O/S. DA

Thanks everyone. I already did the Word update bc. I realized that my daughter would be continuing to bring work back and forth from school. I'm pleasantly surprised that an older version of Microsoft Word is update-able - without being asked to pay for an upgrade. Bob - thanks for explaining what that update is doing. Now I'll know what .docx documents are. I have an older Word myself and all the files are .doc - but it explains the trouble I've had in an organization where we send each other word documents - some must have the newer word and some the old. I will get the Windows Media Player 11. That's a program she uses. One of the reasons I asked here is bc. googling often gets me descriptions/info I don't understand. This is what I found on the update for root certificate: "This item updates the list of root certificates on your computer to the list that is accepted by Microsoft as part of the Microsoft Root Certificate Program. Indeed there is a way. When the image you want is onscreen simply tap the 'Print Screen' (PRN SCRN sometimes) button. Now open your photo editing program, click Edit, click Paste and you have the full screen visible. On some programs you can right click and paste the image, each has their own peculiarity. Now use your resizing or crop tool to remove the bits you do now want then save the image. If I am saving for wallpaper I always elect to save as bitmap (.bmp) because it is a higher quality image than using .jpg There are free screen capture programs out there that will catch a specific frame but I find that is as easy as anything and I do not need to remember how to work another program.
